🎓 Hello Nighthawks,

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming graduation and commencement ceremony for the Northfield High School Class of 2025. These seniors have worked so hard, grown in tremendous ways, and have significantly impacted our school—and we can’t wait to celebrate them!

📍 The Northfield Community is invited to join us on:
Friday, May 30 at 1 p.m.
University of Denver Ritchie Center
2240 S. Buchtel Blvd, Denver, CO 80208

🗂️ No tickets are needed for this year's graduation.

During the ceremony, we will celebrate our 511 graduates and the amazing individuals they have become over the course of their entire education. The Class of 2025 has been described as a connected group of students who are kind, creative, and open. Each year, they have dramatically established themselves in sports, clubs, and in the classroom, and they will undoubtedly leave a great legacy behind.

Graduates, we will be very sad to see you all go, but I think I can speak for our whole staff in saying that we know you will all do great things and continue to evolve into great people.

We look forward to celebrating you at the graduation ceremony and sharing this special moment together.

Northfield Art Students Shine in Film Competition

three photo collage of art students

The Art Department at Northfield High School is proud to recognize eight outstanding students—Henry Gelston, Hunter Theil, Andrew Kolesnikov, Judah Michael, Ridley Steels, Bethel Theodros, Giovany Trejo, and Kendall Smith—for their exceptional achievements in film.

All eight have been nominated by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the prestigious organization best known for awarding Emmys to local television stations.

These nominations come through the Student Production Awards, part of the Heartland Chapter, which includes schools from Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma. This highly competitive regional contest honors excellence in student media production.

Northfield’s nominated films include The Hollow Watch and Don’t Park Here—both powerful examples of storytelling, technical skill, and creative vision. We are thrilled to see our students' work recognized on such a distinguished platform. Winners will be announced on April 26.

We also encourage our school community to check out the award-nominated Instagram series Keeping Up with Kendall—a student-led visual arts feature that connects our department to the wider Northfield community.

Art Meets Nature: IB Visual Arts Students Explore the Denver Zoo

collage of students at Denver Zoo

Students enrolled in IB Visual Arts Level 1 HL at Northfield High School recently enjoyed a dynamic, hands-on field trip to the Denver Zoo. This immersive experience helped students sharpen their observational drawing skills while exploring how natural forms—like the textures, colors, shapes, and movements of animals—can fuel creative expression and strengthen their artistic portfolios.

Aligned with the core goals of the IB Visual Arts program, the trip also encouraged interdisciplinary connections between the arts and biological sciences. Students were challenged to think critically about the relationships between animals, their habitats, and the broader environment.

This free, curriculum-based opportunity extended learning beyond the classroom and supported both artistic growth and academic development.

Guidance for Respiratory Illnesses

DPS Nursing and Student Health Services reminds all families of the following guidance for respiratory illnesses.

How are viruses spread?
Respiratory viruses are primarily spread through contact with droplets from the nose and throat of an infected person, typically via coughing and sneezing. These viruses can also spread when someone touches a surface that has the virus on it, as they can survive on hard surfaces for several hours and on skin for a shorter period. Frequent hand washing is crucial in reducing the spread.

General Health Practices:

  • Hand Hygiene: Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Cough/Sneeze Etiquette: Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of tissues in the trash immediately.

  • Surface Cleaning: Regularly clean and disinfect high-touch areas such as doorknobs, mobile devices, countertops, and tables.

  • Avoid Close Contact: Refrain from close interactions, including kissing, sharing eating utensils, or shaking hands with individuals showing cold-like symptoms.

  • Flu Vaccination: Get your flu vaccine to help reduce the spread of illness.

By following these practices, we can help reduce the transmission of respiratory illnesses in our schools and protect the health of everyone in our community.
