Greetings NEC Families,

It is officially Winter Break!! There is no school tomorrow, December 19 through Monday, January 5. We will see you back at NEC on Tuesday, January 6!

As we head out on break, I want to share a celebration with you all: Our very own Martín Vasquez-Noj was spotlighted in a DPS marketing campaign for being a leader in our community. DPS is sharing his story of perseverance as an immigrant student. Martín has been featured in RTD ads, social media ads, newspaper ads, and even a billboard! Check out Martín's video linked above.

Martín's story is a shining example of the incredible spirit of NEC and our students. I'm so proud of Martín and all of you. It is an honor to be the principal of this school and witness all of your growth.

With that, have a warm and safe break and I will see you in January!

Warmly,

Jennifer Warren, Principal

ℹ️ Message From Nurse Maura: Dangers of Cannabis

Did you know that cannabis can harm developing brains? Teen use is linked to impaired memory, attention, and learning, which can lower school performance and disrupt long‑term cognitive development. Early or frequent use increases the risk of developing cannabis use disorder and may worsen or trigger anxiety, depression, or psychosis in vulnerable teens. Edibles and high‑potency products pose extra risks: delayed effects can lead to accidental overconsumption, stronger intoxication, and dangerous behaviors (e.g., driving while impaired). Finally, regular use can interfere with motivation, extracurricular participation, and healthy social development.

📱 Possip Follow-Up

Thank you for participating in our monthly text surveys through Possip! We read every response carefully and truly value your feedback.

This month, we asked how well students adjusted to their classes and schedules during first semester. We heard that many families felt their students adjusted well, while some experienced challenges. We want to support you with those challenges as we head into second semester! If you have specific requests for support, please let us know here (Google Form).

We will follow up if we are able to assist. If we are not able to support your request at this time, please know that we will keep it on our radar and consider it as opportunities become available in the future.
