Greetings NEC Families,

The first day of school is just around the corner! We can't wait to welcome our 9-12th grade students back to NEC on Monday, August 18, and our Transition program students on Monday, August 25!

Check out my welcome back video (also linked above) for some details about the first day of school. To watch the video with captions in another language, click on "CC" at the bottom of the video. Then, click on the gear icon (settings), click "subtitles," and then click "auto translate." You should now be able to select your preferred language from the drop-down menu.

Just a reminder: we will be on a stripe week bell schedule during the first week of school. First period starts at 8:20 a.m. every day next week.

NEC is implementing Rooms - a two-way communication and messaging tool that will integrate with the new DPS App. Rooms and the DPS app have officially launched!

You can download the DPS app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

With Rooms, families will be able to see classroom announcements and messages from teachers. You will also be able to see upcoming assignments, class content, class updates and more.

Back to School Night is Thursday, Sept. 11 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Mark your calendars now - you won't want to miss it!

The Dunkin Donuts Cruiser will be there with free coffee samples and Dunkin gift cards. We'll also have shaved ice, nachos and other snacks. There will be lawn games and fun set-ups for photo ops with your class, free swag, and of course, you'll get to meet your teachers and learn about classes and clubs.

12th grade parents and guardians are required to attend the 6 p.m. senior meeting in the Student Union. We'll be going over important senior information, including graduation requirements, caps and gowns and senior events.

We're looking for an exceptional student to be our wolf mascot at school events this year - starting with Back to School Night on September 11th! If you are interested, please let us know here and we will be in touch about tryouts.

Interested in Montbello sports? Tryouts for the fall season are happening soon!

• Cheer tryouts are August 19-22 at Montebello High School's Dance Room. Fill out the interest form to have the tryout packet emailed to you.

• Volleyball tryouts are the week of August 25 at Montbello High School's Main Gym. Tryouts are from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
