Greetings NEC Families,

Fall PSAT testing is officially next week! Testing will be October 8 for 10th and 11th graders and October 9 for 9th graders.

The PSAT is a practice SAT. This test will help students determine their strengths and what they can improve on as they study for the SAT. It will also help students get comfortable with the format of the SAT before they take it. Bonus: for 11th graders, a high score on the PSAT can qualify you for scholarships!

Students may find testing to be intimidating, stressful, or simply not-so-fun. But I invite you and your student to think of this test as an opportunity to show what you know! Your classes have prepared you - all you need to do is show up on time and well-rested. We'll even provide breakfast burritos for you! We're confident that you'll test your best.

With Gratitude,

Jennifer Warren

🎊 Celebrating Strong Attendance

Our Attendance Team is proud to share the 237 students have achieved excellent attendance (90-100%) so far this year! We'll be visiting classrooms to celebrate these students with certificates. Every minute in class counts; more time in class contributes to stronger academic performance and social-emotional growth!

📹 Calling All Guardians: Participate in Our Video Project!

SchoolChoice season is coming up, and we want to get the word out about how amazing NEC is. We're putting together a video campaign where students, staff and guardians share what they love about NEC in short 30-60 second video clips. These videos will be posted on our social media accounts and website between November and January.

If you and your student have had a great experience here that you want to share, email our communications specialist Emma Calkins at emma_calkins@dpsk12.net to schedule a video interview!

💭 Possip Results: Summary

Thank you to everyone who shared their feedback through our Possip survey on Sept. 23! We created a Possip Results page on our website where you can read in detail about this survey's results. We also wanted to address two pieces of feedback we saw in the survey:

  • Several of you suggested using Yondr Pouches to help enforce our cell phone policy. We looked into this option and decided to stick with our current electronics policy instead. We want students to learn how to manage time on their phone without the use of a phone-locking system because this is a skill that will serve them throughout their lives. We hope our students will graduate NEC confident that they can stay off their phones when needed - without the use of a special tool.

  • Several of you also asked for better communication. We want to meet this need! In our next Possip survey, we will ask a bonus question about communication preferences. Please take a moment to respond to this so we can improve our communication!
