🟥 Immigration Resources for Families: Red Cards and More

All students, regardless of immigration status, have a constitutionally protected right to access free public education.

DPS has put together a family toolkit designed to assist families in creating personalized action plans in case of deportation or prolonged absence. It provides practical tools and advice on organizing critical documents, managing legal and financial matters, and developing communication strategies. 

You can find the toolkit here (Google doc). You can also print out a red card here. A red card is a small, easy-to-carry document that gives examples of how you can exercise your rights if you encounter an immigration agent.

 

✏️ FREE PSAT and SAT Tutoring During Community!

Denver Public Schools and Northeast Early College are partnering with Tutored by Teachers to provide free, live virtual PSAT/SAT tutoring for students. Sessions are held every Thursday during community class. 

Please encourage your student to take advantage of this opportunity! Many families pay out-of-pocket for similar test prep resources, and we are offering it for free. This is a great way to prepare for the PSAT coming up on March 3 and 4!

🧑🏽‍⚕️Stay Healthy: Flu Season is Here

It's flu season! Respiratory illnesses are currently widespread in Colorado, especially influenza (flu).  

Flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and COVID-19 illnesses are caused by viruses. Symptoms often include fever, coughing, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and body aches. If someone thinks they may have the flu, RSV, or COVID-19, they should stay home until they've been fever-free for at least 24 hours, and their symptoms are improving. The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE) has guidance to help decide when a student should stay home from school. 

To prevent the spread of viral respiratory diseases: 

  • Stay up to date on vaccines (including your yearly flu shot). It’s not too late to get a flu shot to offer extra protection during this tough flu season. You can find providers who carry flu vaccines online. 
  • Wash your hands often. 
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
