Greetings NEC Families,

We've had a busy week here at NEC! We had our pep rally last Friday and homecoming on Saturday. Thank you all for showing up and showing your school spirit! We also had PSAT testing this week; I'm confident that you all did a great job of demonstrating your academic excellence.

Next week, there is no school on Monday, October 13 for conferences. Conferences will be from 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Families will have the chance to connect with their student's teachers and learn more about how students can succeed in each of their classes. We look forward to seeing you Monday!

With Gratitude,

Jennifer Warren

📹 Calling All Guardians: Participate in Our Video Project!

SchoolChoice season is coming up, and we want to get the word out about how amazing NEC is. We're putting together a video campaign where students, staff and guardians share what they love about NEC in short 30-60 second video clips. These videos will be posted on our social media accounts and website between November and January.

If you and your student have had a great experience here that you want to share, email our communications specialist Emma Calkins at emma_calkins@dpsk12.net to schedule a video interview!

🗣️ DPS Meeting for Families of Multilingual Learners

Families of multilingual learners are invited to the DPS Multilingual Education (MLE) District Advisory Committee (DAC) meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 9-11 a.m. at The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Denver.

Attendees will learn about the roles and responsibilities of Parent Advisory Committees (PACs) at their schools, the benefits of the Seal of Biliteracy and how parents can support these initiatives to encourage their students' academic achievement. Light breakfast, childcare and interpretation will be available. Make sure you pre-register for the MLE DAC meeting. For more information, visit the MLE website or contact Sary Portillo at 720-423-2661.

🎃 October Festivities at NEC

The week of October 27th-30th, we will have a Halloween and fall-themed spirit week!

  • Monday, Oct. 27: Colors of Fall - wear a color that fits your fall vibe! Orange (pumpkin), black (autumn after dark), purple (fall feels and mystery), green (into the woods), white (crisp autumn air) or grey (cloudy day cozy).

  • Tuesday, Oct. 28: Anything But a Backpack - bring your school supplies in something other than a backpack (nothing alive). Bonus points if you bring something fall-themed!

  • Wednesday, Oct. 29: Fall Cozy Vibes - "I just woke up from my fall hibernation!" Hoodies, slippers, messy buns, seats, school appropriate PJs.

  • Thursday, Oct. 30: Costumes - School appropriate costumes; no masks or weapons.

On Thursday, Oct. 30, we have a talent show at 4:30! We will open doors early at 3:35 for trick-or-treating at our dens. Students and teachers will have decorated the dens and you'll have the chance to vote on your favorite as you trick-or-treat.
