Dear Merrill Community,

Thank you so much to everyone who came to our Back-To-School Night this Wednesday! It was wonderful to see you all and share information about your student’s classes, Schoology, the DPS App (which will be our main way to stay connected this year), Merrill Athletics, and our exciting Green School status. If you weren’t able to join us, no worries! We’ve included some helpful handouts and presentations below for you to check out.

Clubs Are Starting Next Week!
We’re really excited to kick off our club offerings for the 2025–2026 school year. You can find them
here. There are great clubs your student can join! If your child is interested, we’d love to have them be part of the fun. Please take a moment to review the club expectations together so everyone can have a fantastic year.

A Quick Note About E-Bike Safety
We want all our students to get to school safely and in a healthy way. Lately, we’ve noticed some students not following safety rules when riding their e-bikes on or near campus. To keep everyone safe, please remind your student of these important guidelines:

  • Students should dismount and walk their bikes before reaching the blacktop and off campus before riding.

  • E-bikes must follow all traffic laws and use the bike lane on Florida Avenue.

  • If a student isn’t comfortable riding in the bike lane, they should walk their bike on the sidewalk — riding near other students isn’t allowed.

  • Bikes and e-bikes should never be ridden on school grounds, including the blacktop, field, or in front of the building.

If safety rules aren’t followed, we may have to restrict e-bike use for those students.

Thank you so much for partnering with us to keep Merrill a safe, welcoming place for all our students!

Warmly,
Merrill Leadership

Social Emotional Screening

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Each year, we invite parents and teachers to complete the BESS Survey for all Denver Public School students. The BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Screening System) is a brief social-emotional screening tool that helps us understand how our students are feeling and coping emotionally.

The information collected from the survey allows our team to identify any additional supports or resources your child might need to thrive at school. The survey consists of about 26 multiple-choice questions and takes only a few minutes to complete.

To participate, please use the link or scan the QR code below. You will be asked to enter your child’s student ID (or lunch number) and their birthday. When answering, please reflect on your child’s experiences over the past month.

Thank you for your time and support in helping us provide the best care for your child.

7th Grade Field Trip

Seventh grade students will have a field trip the second week of September where we’ll go to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on one day and explore the  Masjid Abu Bakr Mosque and the Assumption of the Theotokos Cathedral on the opposite day. We’ll explore how ancient belief systems helped influence belief systems today as well as explore Egyptian art and build connections in Science.

We will need chaperones for the museum. If you’re able to support us on Sept. 10 or 11, please fill out this Google Form.

Merrill Store

The Merrill Store is designed to promote positive behavior and encourages students to make good choices. They earn Merrill Money throughout their time at school and use it to "purchase" items at the store during their recess. Items include snacks, chips, candy, sports equipment, Merrill gear, fidgets, toys, stickers and most importantly- gift cards! It's so fun seeing your student during the school day! We will have the store open 2 Fridays a month and hope to see you there! SignUpGeniusHere

Merrill Families Helping Families

Greetings #FAMILY! Merrill Meals pantry provides free groceries once a month to families in the Merrill community that would like to receive extra food. We understand that everyone could use some support from time to time, and we are here to help.

If you would like to receive extra groceries one-time per month, please complete this private and anonymous survey, so we can provide the food items that your family likes to eat and match your preferences. Please mark the items that you would like to have potentially included in your pre-packed backpack.
