Dear Merrill Community,
We had a fantastic first full week with our Merrill Jaguar students! This week, students participated in beginning-of-year baseline assessments to help our teachers understand how to best support and challenge each learner. Athletics kicked off the season with Boys Baseball and Girls Soccer tryouts, along with the first practices for cross country. Please see the athletics section below for more details.
Below are the links to September's grade-level newsletters. Please enjoy reading about the exciting learning planned for next month.
Mark your calendars: Merrill’s Back-to-School Night is next Wednesday, September 3rd. Parents will follow their student’s schedule for the evening. On Tuesday, September 2nd, students will receive a paper copy of their schedule to bring home. Please check in with your student on Tuesday evening to make sure you have their schedule for the event.
We are aware that some student Chromebooks are experiencing technical issues. We will be working with DPS tech support on Tuesday to resolve these problems. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused as we start the school year.
Merrill and DPS are transitioning to a streamlined communication platform called Rooms, accessible through the DPS app. Please see the instructions below on how to download and set up this important tool for the year.
Enjoy the long weekend with your family, and we look forward to welcoming you next Wednesday at Back-to-School Night!
Warmly,
Merrill Leadership

Dear Merrill Community,
DPS is always working to improve and simplify communication between DPS and our families. To kick off the 2025–26 school year, Merrill will be using a new way to stay connected: the DPS App, which will include Rooms, our new two-way communication platform.
The DPS App will bring you:
Live feed updates from your school and the district
District and school news in one place
Upcoming events and important dates
Push notifications for urgent announcements
With Rooms, you can:
Send and receive messages with teachers, staff, and coaches
Get classroom announcements and reminders about coursework and materials
See automatic translations into your preferred language
Families can access Rooms:
On your PHONE using the DPS App (see below)
On your COMPUTER using the following link: click here
Why this matters for families
No more juggling multiple apps and logins—most of the information you need about your child’s learning, their teachers, and what’s happening in DPS will now be in one place.
How to get started
Download the DPS App from the [Google Play Store] or [Apple App Store] or search for “Denver Public Schools using your phones App feature.
Log in using your DPS Parent Portal credentials.
Access Rooms directly within the app to start messaging teachers and receiving updates.
Merrill will share more details at Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 8th from 5:30-7pm.. In the meantime, you can (click here) to access helpful information for parents and guardians. DPS sent their own communication about the DPS app and Rooms on Friday, August 15th.
We’re excited to launch these tools to help you stay informed and engaged in your child’s education. Thank you for your patience as we learn and grow together with this new platform. Welcome to the new school year — here’s to staying connected!
Warmly,
The Merrill Leadership Team
Hello Merrill #FAMILY! It is a new school year and time to assemble our CSC. This committee advises the school on year long goals, analyzes data, and makes budgeting recommendations while providing feedback to the principal. We meet between 4-6 times total (for the last 4 years, virtual has been best for attendees, but we are open to shifting to in-person). We need a few parents and one community member for the 25-26 school year. We would love diverse representation that mirrors our beautifully unique community. Please complete this form if you are interested!
Congratulations to the student athletes who made the girls soccer and boys baseball teams! Schedules for those games should be out soon. Games will likely start next week for the girls and the week of Sept. 8th for the boys.
XC info below.
Seventh grade students will have a field trip the second week of September where we’ll go to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on one day and explore the Masjid Abu Bakr Mosque and the Assumption of the Theotokos Cathedral on the opposite day. We’ll explore how ancient belief systems helped influence belief systems today as well as explore Egyptian art and build connections in Science.
We will need chaperones for the museum. If you’re able to support us on Sept. 10 or 11, please fill out this Google Form.
The Merrill Store is designed to promote positive behavior and encourages students to make good choices. They earn Merrill Money throughout their time at school and use it to "purchase" items at the store during their recess. Items include snacks, chips, candy, sports equipment, Merrill gear, fidgets, toys, stickers and most importantly- gift cards! It's so fun seeing your student during the school day! We will have the store open 2 Fridays a month and hope to see you there! SignUpGeniusHere

Students in Ms. Langdok's 8th-grade science are learning valuable science skills through the Barbie Bungee Jump Lab. They are trying to determine the number of rubber bands that should be used to safely bungee their doll closest to the floor without hitting its head. They measure and graph their results before the final test day! One student commented, “We are having so much fun bungee jumping our Barbies!”
