Its Been a Great First Week Back!

Dear Merrill Community,

Welcome back to another wonderful year at Merrill! We are so excited to have your students with us for the 2025-2026 school year. Our dedicated teachers have been working hard to prepare their classrooms and lessons for an amazing year of learning and growth.

We look forward to seeing you all at our Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 3rd, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Following that, from 7:00 to 7:30 PM, we invite you to join a special session led by our school counselors, social worker, and school psychologist focused on supporting your child’s social and emotional growth. If you need translation services for this event and Back-to-School Night, please fill out this Merrill BTSN Interpretation Form.

We want to start the school year off right with clear expectations around cell phones. Students are allowed to bring cell phones, but they must not be kept on their person during the school day. All cell phones and earbuds should be stored in backpacks or lockers throughout the entire day, including lunch and recess.

If a Merrill staff member sees a student with their phone out, the phone will be collected and taken to the main office. Parents will need to pick up the phone at the end of the day. If you need to get in touch with your student during the day, please call the main office. Thank you for your support in helping us keep a focused learning environment!

Friday, all 7th and 8th graders received their CMAS score reports from last school year. Your student will be bringing the report home today. For 6th grade students, please note that their CMAS score reports are with their previous school. You will need to contact that school to request the report.

As the school year begins, many of our staff members will be reaching out to families by phone to welcome you and share all the exciting learning happening with your student. To help us connect smoothly, please ensure your phone number is up to date and that your voicemail is set up and has space to receive messages from Merrill. We've noticed some voicemails are full or not properly set up, which makes it difficult to reach you.

Additionally, Merrill and DPS are moving toward a streamlined communication platform called Rooms, accessible through the DPS app. Please see the information below on how to download and set up this important tool for the school year.

We are thrilled about all the incredible learning, successes, and experiences this school year will bring. Welcome back, Jaguar families!

Warmly,
Merrill Leadership

Morning drop off map

Families can drop off and pick up in a few areas. The parking lot on Florida between Steele and Monroe, on Iowa between Steele and Monroe and in front of the building on Monroe. Please have a plan with your student for the first day so you know where you will be meeting for pick up! We also have a bike bay behind the building for kids who want to bike.

Please avoid parking on the west side of South Monroe Street between 3:25-3:40pm so traffic doesn't get backed up and cause hazardous safety issues for people trying to wait to round the corner onto Iowa for Kiss and Go for C3!

School Communication and App Update

Please Read In Full - Important Schoolwide Information

Dear Merrill Community,

DPS is always working to improve and simplify communication between DPS and our families. To kick off the 2025–26 school year, Merrill will be using a new way to stay connected: the DPS App, which will include Rooms, our new two-way communication platform.

The DPS App will bring you:

  • Live feed updates from your school and the district

  • District and school news in one place

  • Upcoming events and important dates

  • Push notifications for urgent announcements

With Rooms, you can:

  • Send and receive messages with teachers, staff, and coaches

  • Get classroom announcements and reminders about coursework and materials

  • See automatic translations into your preferred language

Families can access Rooms:

  • On your PHONE using the DPS App (see below)

  • On your COMPUTER using the following link: click here

Why this matters for families
No more juggling multiple apps and logins—most of the information you need about your child’s learning, their teachers, and what’s happening in DPS will now be in one place.

How to get started

  1. Download the DPS App from the [Google Play Store] or [Apple App Store] or search for “Denver Public Schools using your phones App feature.

  2. Log in using your DPS Parent Portal credentials.

  3. Access Rooms directly within the app to start messaging teachers and receiving updates.

Merrill will share more details at Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 8th from 5:30-7pm.. In the meantime, you can (click here) to access helpful information for parents and guardians. DPS sent their own communication about the DPS app and Rooms on Friday, August 15th.

We’re excited to launch these tools to help you stay informed and engaged in your child’s education. Thank you for your patience as we learn and grow together with this new platform. Welcome to the new school year — here’s to staying connected!

Warmly,

The Merrill Leadership Team

Collaborative School Committee

Hello Merrill #FAMILY! It is a new school year and time to assemble our CSC. This committee advises the school on year long goals, analyzes data, and makes budgeting recommendations while providing feedback to the principal. We meet between 4-6 times total (for the last 4 years, virtual has been best for attendees, but we are open to shifting to in-person). We need a few parents and one community member for the 25-26 school year. We would love diverse representation that mirrors our beautifully unique community. Please complete this form if you are interested!

Merrill Store...Coming Soon!

The Merrill Store is designed to promote positive behavior and encourages students to make good choices. They earn Merrill Money throughout their time at school and use it to "purchase" items at the store during their recess. Items include snacks, chips, candy, sports equipment, Merrill gear, fidgets, toys, stickers and most importantly- gift cards! Look for a future Sign Up Genius to donate and volunteer or drop off any items you would like to donate in the main office. It's so fun seeing your student during the school day! We will have the store open 2 Fridays a month and hope to see you there!

Merrill Families Helping Families

Greetings #FAMILY! Merrill Meals pantry provides free groceries once a month to families in the Merrill community that would like to receive extra food. We understand that everyone could use some support from time to time, and we are here to help.

If you would like to receive extra groceries one-time per month, please complete this private and anonymous survey, so we can provide the food items that your family likes to eat and match your preferences. Please mark the items that you would like to have potentially included in your pre-packed backpack.
