Teaching students about mental health wellness and how to care for themselves is important. Feelings of sadness and depression appear to be happening at a much earlier age, and adolescence can feel like a rollercoaster of emotions. Risk factors such as depression and self-injury can be treated. While not every student will experience these feelings, they may be able to help a friend in need.
Each year, schools teach students how to identify risk factors for depression and how to ask for help from a trusted adult. Classroom lessons also include information on Safe2Tell Colorado. Programming is implemented in 6th grade. If you DO NOT want your child to participate in programming, please reach out to Emily Hill, emily_hill1@dpsk12.net by Sept 23.

Merrill Store
The Merrill Store is designed to promote positive behavior and encourages students to make good choices. They earn Merrill Money throughout their time at school and use it to "purchase" items at the store during their recess. Items include snacks, chips, candy, sports equipment, Merrill gear, fidgets, toys, stickers and most importantly- gift cards! It's so fun seeing your student during the school day! We will have the store open 2 Fridays a month and hope to see you there! SignUpGeniusHere

Merrill Memories
Merrill Memories - Prologue - Merrill Dedication, November 24, 1953 at 8pm - Scene I
A few years back, I received a wonderful box filled with memorabilia from Merrill History. It has been a joy to explore these historical treasures and share them with our Merrill community through the school website, the display case outside the library, and Merrill Memories articles in the Jaguar Journal.
Recently, I discovered another special piece: the prologue from our school’s dedication ceremony. Titled “Louise Merrill as We Knew Her,” it can be found on page 6 of the dedication program linked here.
In the upcoming weeks, I will be sharing scenes from this prologue that celebrate Louise Merrill’s legacy and her impact. Click here to read the Merrill Dedication Ceremony Prologue Scene I.
Respectfully submitted,
Alise Lawrence
Cool Classroom!
Students in 8th grade language arts were able to hear from an award winning photojournalist today. Denver Post photojournalist RJ Sangosti came to ELA classes to speak about his work. He shared a bit about his career, how he got into it, as well as how photographs tell a powerful story. This connects to the photojournalism PBL with the refugee experience.
