💻 Parent Teacher Organization Meeting December 8th

Our parent group is meeting virtually on Monday, December 8th from 6-7 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering at McMeen or helping organize McMeen events, please join us by following this Zoom link. Translation will be provided.

🍕 McMeen Eats at Esters December 8th

On Monday, December 8th, dine-in or order pick-up from Esters (1950 S Holly St) and they will donate 20% of their sales to McMeen! All you have to do is show the flyer or mention “McMeen” at checkout. For online orders, type “McMeen” in the order notes.

🍎 Classroom Observations

We received new guidance from the district this week about parents observing in classrooms. The new policy comes from concerns over student privacy, safety, etc. Moving forward, parents may only observe in classrooms if approved by an administrator and accompanied by a McMeen staff member.

✏️ Mark Your Calendars! ACCESS Testing Information Session

Colorado requires kindergarten through 12th grade students who speak a language other than English at home to take a test that measures their English skills. This test is called ACCESS. We are hosting an ACCESS information session on Tuesday, December 16th at 8 a.m. in the McMeen cafeteria. If your student speaks a language other than English at home, please attend this session to learn more about ACCESS!

👩‍⚕️ Nurse's Message

We’re seeing typical December temperatures in Colorado - but the cold does not need to keep us from doing everyday activities like attending school! Please know that when McMeen is open, the weather is safe enough for your children to attend school.

Please make sure your children are dressed in layers so they can take items off or put them back on during daily temperature changes.

As a reminder, colds and other common wintertime illnesses are caused by contagious viruses passed from person to person, not temperature changes. Getting sick from having wet hair in the cold is a myth.

💙 THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS

We want to say a BIG THANK YOU to our volunteers who helped pack and deliver 70 food boxes to our community over Fall Break! We are so grateful for your dedication to our students and families.

If you would you like volunteer to sponsor or pack boxes for Winter Break, please fill out our volunteer form (Google Form). THANK YOU!

🗣️ Award for Students Who Speak Two Languages

Students who speak (or are learning to speak) English and another language can earn an award called "Pathways to the Seal of Biliteracy!" To earn the award, your student must show growth in both English and their home language or second language.

Every month, we provide a list of optional activities you can do with your child at home to help them grow these language skills. We recommend trying the activities in both languages. You can find December's activities here (Google Slides).

📕 READ Plan Survey

If your child is on a READ plan, we want to hear from you! Please take 10-15 minutes to fill out this survey and share your feedback on the impact of their READ plan.
