Hello, Commander Community!
We have one more week before we head into finals. Please encourage your students to connect with their teachers to ensure they finish the semester strong. Please see the finals schedule below.
December 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.: Winter Athletics Community Meeting
December 12 at 6:00 p.m.: Band and Choir Concert
December 23-January 6: Winter Break; No School for Students
Saturday School is tomorrow. This is a great opportunity for students to get some additional support before their finals. Saturday School will be held tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All are welcome.
The theatre program has returned to JFK! We recently welcomed our new theatre teacher, Kristen Martin, who comes to Kennedy with a lot of experience; our auditorium is starting to buzz! Please see this video introduction to hear from her about this new program.
Although classes at JFK are year-long (and no other schedule changes will occur at the semester break), we are providing students the opportunity to join this Theatre Art or Unified Theatre for the spring semester if their schedule allows for it!
The counselors will be pushing into select classes on 12/11 and 12/12, but all students can visit with their counselor about this change during lunch on the 11th and 12th if they would like to request to take theatre. Please reach out to your student's counselor with any questions.
At John F. Kennedy High School, we are committed to providing students with a consistent and rigorous academic experience. Students select their courses with the understanding that these are year-long commitments, and our school-wide schedule is carefully built to support these selections. As a result, schedule changes are only permitted under specific circumstances to maintain the integrity of the academic program while addressing critical student needs.
Schedule changes will only be considered for the following reasons:
Graduation Requirement Needs:
A student requires a specific course to fulfill a graduation requirement or correct an error in their graduation plan.
Advancement to Honors or Higher-Level Courses:
A student demonstrates readiness and receives teacher or department approval to move up to an honors or advanced-level course.
Wants to take a Concurrent Enrollment, IB or CEC class and meets all prerequisites.
Supports for a student who is struggling in a class:
First: Student check-in with teacher.
Attend Thursday Tutoring/ Saturday School/ Office Hours
Second: Consider attendance (ask for support if needed).
Third: Request parent-teacher conference.
Fourth: Connect with the Culture Team or Counselor for further support.
Winter Sports kicks off its season next week with our boys' basketball team taking on Jefferson at High School at Jefferson on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Our girls' basketball team will take on Columbine at Columbine on Thursday at 7:00 p.m, and our boys' and girls' wrestlers will take on Englewood at Englewood on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
We will also host a Winter Community Meeting on Tuesday, December 10th, from 6:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. If you have a student participating in a winter sport, please attend to learn more about the season.
