John F. Kennedy High School
It was another great week here at Kennedy. Congratulations to our Girls Basketball team who had an amazing win against Dakota Ridge this week!
Saturday school will not run this Saturday due to frigid temperatures. We will resume on January 25th. This is an excellent opportunity for students to get additional support in their core classes. We also offer P/SAT support and practice. Saturday School runs every Saturday from 9:00 am until noon. We hope to see you there.
If your student is in 9th, 10th, or 11th grade, please have them check their email next Thursday for communication from Princeton Review. Every student will have access to practice exams and materials in preparation for the upcoming exam. This is entirely free for your student.
Please review the updated Student Handbook for information about our new hall pass system and updates to our grading policy.
If you have an 8th-grade student, please join us for Future Commander Night on January 30th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Come hear about all of the great things we have to offer here at Kennedy and how to register your student.
Our special education team will be hosting a Family Resource Night. There are various agencies and community partners who will be here to support families. Please see the flyer below for additional information.
At John F. Kennedy High School, we are committed to providing students with a consistent and rigorous academic experience. Students select their courses with the understanding that these are year-long commitments, and our school-wide schedule is carefully built to support these selections. As a result, schedule changes are only permitted under specific circumstances to maintain the integrity of the academic program while addressing critical student needs.
Schedule changes will only be considered for the following reasons:
Graduation Requirement Needs:
A student requires a specific course to fulfill a graduation requirement or correct an error in their graduation plan.
Advancement to Honors or Higher-Level Courses:
A student demonstrates readiness and receives teacher or department approval to move up to an honors or advanced-level course.
Wants to take a Concurrent Enrollment, IB or CEC class and meets all prerequisites.
Supports for a student who is struggling in a class:
First: Student check-in with teacher.
Attend Thursday Tutoring/ Saturday School/ Office Hours
Second: Consider attendance (ask for support if needed).
Third: Request parent-teacher conference.
Fourth: Connect with the Culture Team or Counselor for further support.
You can find the upcoming Commander athletic events here.
Boys Basketball
Highlight of the Week: Varsity has made strides and is competing in multiple leagues games! JV won their first game of the season on Tuesday against Robert F. Steam School. This is 6 weeks earlier than JV's first win last year! The C-Team went on the road and played a tough (and older) JV team to the last possession of the game!
Senior Night for Boys Basketball will be Tuesday, 2/4 at home against KIPP. Come cheer on your Commanders!
Boys Wrestling
Highlight of the Week: 7 of the 9 Wrestlers placed at the South Tournament!
We have our only home dual on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., and it is our Senior night. Please come support and show our team some love.
