Principal Message
Welcome Back! We are so happy to welcome back students and staff this week. Although it was cold and snowy most days, students came back excited and eager to learn.
Starting next week on Tuesday, January 13, students in the Multilingual Education Program (MLE) will begin taking the ACCESS language test. All English Language Learner (ELL) students who have not yet demonstrated grade-level proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and mathematics will take the tests during their regular ELD class time.
Stay Warm, and have a good weekend!
Saturday School
Saturday School will resume next week, January 18th. This is an excellent opportunity for students to get additional support in their core classes. We also offer P/SAT support and practice. Saturday School runs every Saturday from 9:00 am until noon. We hope to see you there.
2024-25 Student Handbook
Please review the updated Student Handbook for information about our new hall pass system and updates to our grading policy.
Special Education Resource Night
Our special education team will be hosting a Family Resource Night. There are various agencies and community partners who will be here to support families. Please see the flyer below for additional information.
John F. Kennedy High School Schedule Change Policy
At John F. Kennedy High School, we are committed to providing students with a consistent and rigorous academic experience. Students select their courses with the understanding that these are year-long commitments, and our school-wide schedule is carefully built to support these selections. As a result, schedule changes are only permitted under specific circumstances to maintain the integrity of the academic program while addressing critical student needs.
Schedule changes will only be considered for the following reasons:
Graduation Requirement Needs:
Advancement to Honors or Higher-Level Courses:
A student demonstrates readiness and receives teacher or department approval to move up to an honors or advanced-level course.
Wants to take a Concurrent Enrollment, IB or CEC class and meets all prerequisites.
Supports for a student who is struggling in a class:
First: Student check-in with teacher.
Second: Consider attendance (ask for support if needed).
Third: Request parent-teacher conference.
Fourth: Connect with the Culture Team or Counselor for further support.
