Welcome back, Commanders! We hope you had an amazing and memorable summer. As we prepare for students to return next week, we wanted to share additional information and reminders.

  • August 29 from 5 to 7 p.m.: Back to School Night

  • August 29 and 30: 10th-12th Grade Picture Day

  • August 29: Balfour Cap and Gown Orders

New Messaging Platform

All DPS schools have switched to a new messaging platform, called Thrillshare by Apptegy! Here’s what you need to know:

  • All messages will be delivered in families’ preferred languages, as noted in Infinite Campus. If you would like to change the language you are receiving communications in, please update your profile in the Parent Portal.

  • School communications will now be delivered from noreply@dpsk12.org. Please add this recipient to your contact list or monitor your Spam/Junk folder to ensure you are receiving new communications.

  • If you “opt-out” of receiving communications at any point during the school year, you will be unsubscribed from all school and District communication and alerts, including emergency communications. For this reason, we highly discourage families from opting out of communications.

  • Per DPS policy, students in 9th grade or higher can subscribe to receive school messages directly, but their guardians are required to receive the same messages. Communications will not be sent to students only.

Newsletters, like this one, will have a new look. If you have feedback on the design or content, please contact natalie_brigham@dpsk12.net with your feedback.

Schedules

Students will receive their schedules on Monday or Tuesday. Our counselors are working diligently to finalize all schedules so they are ready for Monday. If your student's schedule is not in parent/student portal yet, it will be there next week.

Student Drop Off

To better control traffic flow in the morning, students must be dropped off and enter through the student parking lot entrance. (Please reference the map below.)

Students will not be let into the East side of the building unless they are with a parent who is checking in. All students must enter on the West side of the building next to the student parking lot.

Student IDs

All students are required to have their student ID out and visible at all times. If your student is returning and has an ID from last year, they can wear that ID until they receive a new ID on August 29 or 30.

Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones may not be used in any classrooms unless explicitly approved by the teacher for learning purposes. This includes the use of headphones.

Families can call the Main Office (720-423-4300) if they need to get in touch with their student(s) during the school day.

Athletics

Students must have the following to participate in tryouts & official practices for the 2024-2025 school year:

  • A completed and submitted FamilyID registration

  • A current physical exam must be uploaded to FamilyID during the registration process.

    • Paper copies are not permitted unless it is an emergency.

  • A transcript review for eligibility

  • Approval from Athletic Director Jen Montoya

If a student wants to participate in a sport that is not offered at Kennedy, students may access the Student Without a Program (SWOP) process.

  • A student is defined as SWOP, “If a student’s school of attendance or nonpublic home-based educational program does not offer an activity in which the student wishes to participate, the student may participate in the activity at another public school in the student’s school district of attendance or in the student’s school district of residence.”

  • The student and family should select a school of participation where they will compete in the majority of their interested sports.

  • In addition to the FamilyID/arbitersports registration, please complete the Student Without a Program form.
