Community Updates 9/4

Hallett students walking into school as parents and teachers hold up encouraging 1st day of school signs and bubbles

From the Desk of Ms. D

Dear Hawks Community,

We are getting into a groove here at Hallett for the 2025-26 school year! As our students settle into a learning routine at school, I invite you to support their learning at home. Here are some ideas to consider:

  • Set up a quiet learning space for your child where they can work on homework or read.

  • Ask your student about what they're learning in their classes - ask them what they find fun and what they find challenging.

  • Designate 20-30 minutes a day for reading time. Read with your child or have them read independently and ask them questions about their book.

We're excited to continue this learning journey with our Hawks! Read on for important Hallett updates and reminders.

Warmly,

Ms. D, Principal

πŸ“± New Communication Tool: DPS App

This year, we are using a new communications tool called Rooms, which will allow you to see classroom announcements and message your child's teacher.

To access Rooms, you must download the DPS app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

Make sure you set Hallett as your default school in the app. Once you download and open the app, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the blue button underneath "Feed" that says "Denver Public Schools."

  2. A pop-up will show up that says "Change school." Click on "See all schools"

  3. A page will open that says "Subscribe to" with a search bar underneath. Type "Hallett" in the search bar and Hallett will show up in the list.

  4. Click on "Hallett Academy"

  5. Click on the blue "Done" button. You are now set up to view Hallett communications!

🚨 Emergency Drills at Hallett

Throughout the school year, we will be practicing emergency drills so that our students are prepared in the unlikely event of an emergency. Here is a summary of each drill we will practice:

  • Lockdown: In case of threat inside the building. Educators will lock classroom doors, turn off the lights and direct students to sit out of sight with their cell phones silenced.

  • Secure Perimeter: In case of threat outside the building. Educators will bring students inside Hallett and external doors will be locked. School business continues as usual inside the building.

  • Evacuate: In case of fire or gas leak. Educators lead students outside the building to designated locations.

  • Shelter: In case of tornado. Educators will bring students to the basement or interior hallways.

  • Hold: In case of a medical emergency or fight. Educators will close and lock classroom doors and stay put, ignoring the bell schedule.

⏰ School Hours

As a reminder, the first bell rings at 8:45 a,m., signaling students to head to class. The second bell rings at 8:50 a.m., signaling that students should be seated in class and ready to learn. School is dismissed at 3:50 p.m.

πŸ’› Please Respect Our Neighbors

Drop off and pick up can be a busy time on the streets surrounding Hallett. To respect the residents of these streets, please do not block their driveways. Please also be mindful of the new speed humps around Hallett - drive slowly and safely.

Finally, when dropping students off in the Kiss N Go lane, be sure to say a quick goodbye and keep moving after dropping off your child. Always drop off your child on the same side of the street as Hallett so they don't have to cross the street!

βœ‹ Get Involved at Hallett: Collaborative School Committee

Want to get involved at Hallett and learn about the amazing things happening here? Join our Collaborative School Committee! You can join as an individual OR as a representative of your place of business. We invite you to represent your business if you work at an organization that you think would partner well with us (for example, Boys and Girls Club).

Meetings will be every other month. If you are interested, let Candice know by Friday, September, 6.
