From the Desk of Ms. D

Dear Hallett Families,

It was wonderful to see you all at Back To School Night last Thursday! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedules to check out your students' classrooms, talk to our educators, and explore the programs we offer here at Hallett. As promised, we've included our Back to School Night reminders in this newsletter for your reference.

I also wanted to thank you all for your interest in getting involved at Hallett! We've heard from many families about the kinds of volunteer opportunities you're interested in, and we're excited make those opportunities available. More information is in the "Get Involved" section of this newsletter! And if you haven't had the chance to share your ideas for getting involved at Hallett, feel free to fill out this quick form.

Your dedication to our Hawks community is inspiring!

Warmly,

Ms. D

Important Reminders

Paperwork to Complete

If you haven't already, please complete a Free and Reduced Lunch Application at MySchoolApps.

If you haven't already, please complete registration immediately (either online via the Parent Portal or by returning the paper registration packet that was sent home with your child).

If your contact information or address has changed, please notify the school office.

Drop Off and Pick Up

If your child arrives at school after 8:55 a.m., they are considered tardy and need to check in at the main office.

If your child is out sick, please notify the school office at 720-424-6070. If no one answers, please leave a message. You can also notify us of your child's absence by filling out this form.

If you are picking up your child early, please understand that we will not call them to the office until you arrive at Hallett.

Classroom Reminders

If you are visiting your child's classroom or walking them to class, please stop by the main office to obtain a visitor's pass. If it is your first time signing in as a visitor, you will need a physical copy of your driver's license so we can scan you into our system.

If you call the office wanting to speak to your child's teacher, please understand that we cannot transfer the call because it would disrupt their class. The office staff is happy to take a message and will let your child's teacher know that you called.

Weather

Fall is on its way! As the weather starts to change, please send your child to school with appropriate outerwear.

Encouraging Social and Emotional Growth at Hallett

At Hallett Academy, we help our students grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally.

We encourage you to talk to your children about empathy at home to foster this social and emotional growth.

Of course, no one is perfect, and as our students hone their social and emotional skills, behavioral incidents may still occur. Please make sure your child reports any incident of harm to a trusted adult so we can address these behavioral incidents in a restorative manner.

Thank you for helping us meet the needs of all of our students!

Picture Day Retakes

Picture Day retakes are on Thursday, Sept. 12. If your child was absent on Picture Day (Aug. 29) or if you were unhappy with your child's pictures, make sure they're ready for their retakes!

How to Get Involved

We've heard from our families about how they want to get involved at Hallett! Below are the top three volunteer opportunities that Hallett families are interested in, with information on how on how to take advantage of these opportunities. (If you didn't have a chance to share how you hope to get involved at Hallett, please fill out this short form to let us know what volunteer opportunities you are interested in.)

Help prep classroom materials. 85% of families who responded to our survey are interested in prepping materials for their students' classrooms. This could involve stapling packets and stuffing folders, and does not have to happen during school hours or at Hallett.

Opportunities to prep class materials will depend on teachers' specific needs, so we've asked our educators to share such opportunities with their classroom communities. We encourage families to reach out to their students' educators if they have specific questions on how they can help.

Join our Hallett Parent Group. 60% of respondents are interested in joining our Hallett Parent Group. The group is a great way for parents to stay connected, collaborate and support Hallett in meeting the needs of our students. To join the group, please email parent leader Arianna at Ariannaconnorjones91@gmail.com.

Chaperone Hallett field trips. 50% of respondents are interested in chaperoning field trips. To volunteer as a chaperone, please contact your child's teacher and let them know that you're interested. If selected, you will be responsible for your child and up to 5 additional children on the field trip. Note that we want to give all parents the opportunity to be a chaperone, so depending on demand, you may not be asked to chaperone every time your child's class goes on a field trip.

And here are some additional opportunities to get involved:

Sponsor Student Planners

We hope to gift our 5th graders with planners to help them achieve academic excellence this school year! This organizational tool will help them prepare for middle school as well.

If you or your company is interested in sponsoring planners for our 5th graders, please reach out to Ms. Yvonne for more information.

Join the Collaborative School Committee

Want to have a voice in how we do things at Hallett? Join our Collaborate School Committee! This is a great opportunity to strategize with Ms. D, Hallett educators and staff and other Hallett community members on how to improve our student achievement.

The CSC will meet 4 times this year. For more information, please contact Ms. Yvonne.
