From the Desk of Ms. D

Dear Hawks Community,

I can't believe it is already October! Attendance Awareness Month might be over (Sept.), but your child's attendance matters just as much as ever. Students can fall behind even if they only miss 1 or 2 days every few weeks. Read on for more information on why attendance matters and what you can do to improve your child's attendance and their success at school.

Go Hawks!

Warmly,

Ms. D

“To teach in a manner that respects and cares for the souls of our students is essential if we are to provide the necessary conditions where learning can most deeply and intimately begin.”

Important Reminders

Hug and Go Parking Reminders

Thank you for quickly dropping students off in the Hug and Go area!

If you need to visit Hallett for an extended period of time, please park in an area that does not have cones.

Please avoid double parking or making making U turns on Jasmine street as it can create an unsafe Hug and Go area for student drop off.

If students and families are engaging in family fun on the Hallett playground after school hours, please make sure to supervise your child/ren.

Teacher/School Communication

If you have concerns related to your child's classroom, please email your child's teacher to schedule a meeting.

If you have concerns related to Hallett more broadly (i.e. lunchroom/playground behavior, bullying from another student, a staff member ,etc) please call our front office at 720-424-6070.

School Safety

At Hallett, we will engage in monthly safety drills so our students are prepared in the event of an emergency. DPS follows the Standard Response Protocol. We encourage you to walk through these protocols with your student to help them understand why we conduct safety drills.

Reporting Absences

Thank you for calling Hallett's office to report your students' absences! Ms. Yvonne doesn't have the capacity to return every phone call, so do not expect a call back if you leave a message to report an absence. (But rest assured, Ms. Yvonne will listen to your message and mark your child's absence in our system!)

Box Tops for Hallett

Are you looking for a quick and easy way to support our school?

Box Tops for Education has been around for over 25 years, and it really can make a difference. In fact, the Box Tops program has helped give almost one billion dollars to schools since 1996.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops app to scan your paper receipt or submit a digital receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app identifies eligible products and earnings are credited to your designated school.

If you’ve connected your Box Tops and Walmart accounts and you buy participating products at Walmart using the saved payment method in your Walmart wallet, you’ll earn Box Tops for Hallett — no scanning required.

Twice a year, Hallett gets a check!

Attendance Matters

We understand that getting to school on time every day can be challenge, but it's worth it! Regular attendance will help your child thrive at school. This short video shares tips on how to build good habits and routines that promote good school attendance for all ages. Access this folder to watch the video in your language.

attendance matters

At DPS and Hallett Academy we are striving to have all students in school all day Monday-Friday from 8:50 a.m.-3:50 p.m.

A student is considered chronically absent when they miss 10% or more of the time enrolled in school for any reason: excused, unexcused or suspended. Chronic absenteeism is calculated by the minute - so arriving late and leaving early counts. EVERY minute your child is in school matters.

Last week, the district shared each student's attendance data and chronic absenteeism status with their guardians; these were accurate updates. If your child needs to improve their attendance, it's not too late! Attendance status can improve during the school year as long as your student attends all classes for the full day, every day.
