Dear Hawks Community,

I hope you all have been able to stay warm despite the recent freezing temperatures!

This is our last newsletter of January, which means I've got a college-related tip for you in Candice's College Corner! Check it out - it's at the end of the newsletter.

Stay warm!

Ms. D

Emergency Drills Note

Earlier this month, we had a lockdown and secure perimeter drill here at Hallett. Our students did a great job of practicing what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency.

Please note that whenever we have a secure perimeter or lockdown (whether it's a drill or actual emergency), there will be a blue flashing light outside the building. While that light is flashing, no one is allowed to enter or exit the building. If you ever come to Hallett and the blue light is flashing, please wait in your vehicle until it turns off.

Late Pick-Up Reminder

If you're going to be late picking up your child, please notify the front office. Please do not ask your child to relay the information to us; ultimately it is your responsibility to make sure we know about late pick-ups.

Candice's College Corner

It's the last Thursday of the month, and that means I'll be sharing a college-readiness tip!

Even though it doesn't feel like it, our spring break (March 24-31) is coming up quick! If you are making travel plans, I recommend adding a college visit to your itinerary. It only takes an hour or two to take a quick detour on vacation to the nearest college. Walk around campus with your child, maybe peek into a classroom or two and have a lunch at the student union. Chat with them about different subjects they might want to study or clubs they could see themselves joining. There's nothing like an in-person visit to plant some college seeds in your child's mind.

If you're not traveling for break, no worries! There are many colleges in the Denver area that you can take an afternoon trip to. Consider visiting one (or more!) of the following local colleges:

  • University of Denver (DU)

  • Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver)

  • University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver)

  • Regis University

  • Colorado School of Mines

  • Community College of Denver (CCD)

  • Johnson & Wales University (JWU)

  • Auraria Campus (Shared by CU Denver, MSU Denver, and CCD)

  • Red Rocks Community College (RRCC)
