Food Distribution Sites and Assistance

Eagle families in need of additional food assistance should contact these local organizations:

  • The LoVVe Project: The LoVVe Project offers Food Markets where families can pick up a free basket of food at no cost. The LoVVe Project provides food baskets every Tuesday at Ellis from 2-2:30 p.m. and they offer Saturday Markets on occasion as well.

  • Tasty Food Program: Afterschool meals for children will be offered at Denver recreation centers. Visit the Tasty Food website for locations and hours of operation.

  • Food Bank of the Rockies: Find a food pantry near you using their Pantry Locator tool.

  • Colorado 211: This confidential and multilingual service connects people to vital resources across Colorado. Call 2-1-1, 866-760-6489 or visit 211colorado.org. Note: The hotline is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, however, expect long wait times. To avoid waiting, use the call-back feature.

  • Feeding Colorado: The collaborative effort of the 5 Feeding America food banks that serve Colorado and Wyoming to coordinate and enhance food resources, ensuring food insecure Coloradans have access to healthy, fresh foods. Visit feedingcolorado.org/find-food or email info@feedingcolorado.org.

  • Hunger Free Colorado: Connects Colorado families and individuals to SNAP/food stamps, food pantries, free meal sites, WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) and other nutrition programs geared toward families, children and older adults. Call 855-855-4626 Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Snack Time in the Classroom

We provide a healthy snack of fruits and vegetables for free to every Ellis student, every day.

To help our children feel their best and stay focused throughout the day, we kindly ask that only healthy snacks be sent to school. Avoiding candy and overly sugary treats during the school day support learning, energy, and overall well-being, helping every child succeed in the classroom.

How Sick is Too Sick?

Healthy kids learn best! Here’s a quick guide to help you decide when your Eagle is ready for school and when they might need to stay home.

Please keep your child home if they have:

•A fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher (must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning)
•Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
•A frequent cough or trouble breathing
•A sore throat with fever or swollen glands
•A rash that’s new, spreading, or unexplained
•Red, irritated eyes with drainage

It’s okay to send your child to school if:

•They have mild cold symptoms (like a slight runny nose or light cough) but feel well enough to participate
•They’ve been fever-free and feeling better for at least 24 hours
•They’re on medication for an illness and are feeling well again

Please check out the How Sick is Too Sick guidelines from the Colorado Department of Health for more detailed information. Thank you for helping keep our school community healthy and happy!
