Meet Our Incoming Principal: Mr. Anthony Muñiz

Hello everyone! My name is Anthony Muñiz, and I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the incoming principal of Ellis Elementary School. I bring 18 years of experience in education across elementary, middle, and high school settings, including roles as a teacher, dean of students, assistant principal, and principal resident within Denver Public Schools. I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish, and my work has consistently focused on building strong school cultures, supporting multilingual learners, and strengthening instructional practices so all students can thrive. I am deeply aligned with Ellis’s belief that we are all learners and that growth comes from reflection, collaboration, and a commitment to the whole child.

On a personal note, I was born in New York, raised in Puerto Rico, and have been here in Colorado for the last 10 years. During my free time I enjoy playing video games, reading, hiking, going to the gym, and trying out new restaurants. I have a cat called Osman who is 3 years old and keeps me pretty busy around the house. I love traveling and getting to know different cultures. I have been to Australia, Spain, and Mexico, just to name a few countries I have visited.

I look forward to listening, learning, and working alongside you all as we build on the strong foundation already in place at Ellis!

Reminder: ACCESS Testing is Underway

MLL students in Kindergarten-5th grade will participate in the annual ACCESS assessment. This test measures students’ progress in learning English in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Results help teachers better support each student’s growth and ensure they receive the right resources to thrive academically. Please encourage your Eagle to do their best and get plenty of rest on testing days!

Testing began on January 12 and concludes on February 13.  Please ensure your student is present and on time.

No School on Monday, January 19

There is no school on Monday, January 19 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Enjoy the long weekend, and we'll see our Eagles back at school on Tuesday, January 20.

Student Dental Cleanings Sponsored by Tepeyac Community Health Center

Don't forget: Discovery Link will host its 2nd annual student dental clinic sponsored by the Tepeyac Community Health Center on Friday January 23, 2026!  Families will need to complete the consent form that went home in last Friday's folder. Discovery Link Leader, Ms. Ebony Moore, has additional copies of the consent form in her classroom (room 107) if you need a new form!

Staff Spotlight: Interim Principal Kurt Siebol

We wanted to take this opportunity to highlight our Interim Principal Kurt Siebold for joining our Eagle family this year. When he first arrived at Ellis, Mr. Siebold says he was struck by Ellis’ strong caring community. “There is a strong climate of paraprofessionals and teachers who are invested in the lives of the students,” he said.

His favorite part of this school year has been getting to know the staff and students, and it’s a privilege to support the staff as they work to support our Eagle students. He encourages all Eagles to keep working hard and to enjoy the learning journey.

Thank you for everything you’ve done to help our school!

How Sick is Too Sick?

Healthy kids learn best! Here’s a quick guide to help you decide when your Eagle is ready for school and when they might need to stay home.

Please keep your child home if they have:

•A fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher (must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning)
•Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
•A frequent cough or trouble breathing
•A sore throat with fever or swollen glands
•A rash that’s new, spreading, or unexplained
•Red, irritated eyes with drainage

It’s okay to send your child to school if:

•They have mild cold symptoms (like a slight runny nose or light cough) but feel well enough to participate
•They’ve been fever-free and feeling better for at least 24 hours
•They’re on medication for an illness and are feeling well again

Please check out the How Sick is Too Sick guidelines from the Colorado Department of Health for more detailed information. Thank you for helping keep our school community healthy and happy!
