September is Deaf Awareness Month - a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Deaf culture, history, and American Sign Language (ASL). Shoutout to our Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing here at East Jesse Lee, and Claudia Hopkins, the DPS ASL Specialist for taking the time to visit several classes this month to educate our students on Deaf culture!
Happy Friday!
The celebration continues! Thank you so much to all of your continued support of the East Angel community. This weekend brings us another outstanding set of events and we hope you will consider joining us. Thanks for a great week and have a wonderful weekend!

On Thursday, October 2nd, the Department of Climate and Safety will guide us through our first lockdown drill of the year using the Crisis Go communication system.
To begin fourth period, students will view a training video that highlights our Emergency Procedures and the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to help them prepare for the drill. The lockdown drill will start at 10:00 am and is expected to conclude by 10:30 am.
Please remember, this is a drill. As we practice, we want to acknowledge the impact this process may have on members of our East community and the importance of approaching it as a shared experience in support of safety.
Thank you for your participation and commitment to keeping our school community safe.
Our very own CTE teacher, Estee Bershof, who teaches Honors Animation and Film here at East, is being featured in the Colorado Shorts: Narrative program at the 48th Denver Film Festival. This is an incredible achievement! We want to congratulate Estee on this achievement and invite you to learn more about the film festival at this link. Estee says “[i]t means a lot to me that the same creative work I guide my students through is also recognized at the professional level. I’m looking forward to bringing this experience back to the classroom and continuing to grow our programs.”
Next time you see Estee, be sure to congratulate her! Way to go, Estee!

Is your student interested in enhancing their education by taking college courses? We invite students to join an informational meeting about concurrent enrollment opportunities for the Spring 2026 semester. This session will cover available options at the local community college, technical college, and Metropolitan State University, as well as outline the requirements and next steps to get started. We look forward to helping your student take the next exciting step in their academic journey! If your student is already enrolled for this Fall semester, they are still required to attend to receive the Spring 2026 forms. Please email Lindsey_Vesceri@dpsk12.net with any questions.
9th-11th grade students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT 9 and NMSQT. This is an excellent SAT practice opportunity for all, and the NMSQT allows national academic recognition and scholarship opportunities.
Please be on time for testing. If you arrive after your assigned testing room has started testing, you may not be admitted.
Please bring your School Issued chromebook fully charged with your charger.
There will be one make-up opportunity for the 11th grade NMSQT test only starting at 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday October 14th in the library.
Please also be aware that students with extended time or extra breaks accommodations will not be released with students who have standard time and breaks.
During testing weeks, students are required to attend only during their assigned testing day. Testing days are assigned by grade level and test.
A guardian may opt their child out of their testing accommodations for this test no later than Wed. October 2nd by sending an email that states the full name, grade, and test to our site assessment leader Jessica Perkins at jperkin@dpsk12.net . Students may not opt out of their accommodations after October 3rd.
