Dear East Community,

On Friday, February 28th, students in grades 9–11 completed a full-length practice P/SAT. Research from CollegeBoard “shows that a student’s score on one of our eight full-length practice tests is highly indicative of what that student will score on their actual SAT. Many of our practice tests have previously been used in actual SAT administrations, so the types of questions and level of difficulty are equivalent to what students will see on SAT day."

Now that students have a practice score, College Board, in partnership with Khan Academy, has generated individualized study plans to help them focus on the skills and strategies needed to improve their scores for the April test. If a student was absent, they have the opportunity to take the practice test at home. Below are the directions from CollegeBoard and Khan Academy about how to link and access study materials and resources.

Accessing Scores & Personalized Practice

Once students complete a full practice test in Bluebook™, their results will be available under “My Practice” on the College Board website. By signing into their College Board account, students can:

  • Click the arrow next to their practice test score to view a detailed breakdown of their performance.

  • Follow the link at the top of the score details page to “Explore Every Question on Khan Academy.”

  • Access Khan Academy’s Official Practice Test Review, which includes explanations for every question and links to relevant lessons—all completely free!

Students should use their practice test results to identify areas where they need the most improvement. Khan Academy offers targeted SAT prep lessons and exercises to help strengthen these skills and boost performance on test day.

From April 14th - 17th East High School students will participate in SAT, PSAT, and CMAS Science tests as required by the state of Colorado. This is a chance for students and their families to get feedback on student progress and college readiness.

All 11th grade students taking the SAT free of charge have the opportunity to send their scores to colleges to be considered for admissions decisions.

The optional SAT Essay is offered as part of the 11th grade test. The deadline to opt into the essay portion of the SAT is February 18th. Please use this google form to opt into the essay section of the SAT. Talk to your student's counselor if you have any questions.

Parents or guardians who would like to decline their student’s College Board approved testing accommodations for the April administration of the SAT or PSAT should email our Site Assessment Leader Jessica Perkins at jperkin@dpsk12.net by March 14. Any requests made after that date may not be guaranteed because accommodations are built into the digital testing format.

These test scores affect East High School’s ratings on the state of Colorado’s School Performance Framework.

The guardian of a Denver Public Schools student, can request to excuse their child from participating in the state assessments. If you wish to opt your child out, follow the directions at this link in English or this link in Spanish. The deadline for opting out is February 28. After this date any opt out requests need to be in writing and directed to mark_saucedo@dpsk12.net.
