Attention 9th and 10th Grade Students!

Hello Families,

East High School is doing a tutoring session for 9th and 10th graders on 3/11 and 3/18 from 3:00 - 3:50pm.  The goal of this time is to target students who are failing Science, Math or Elective class (3/11) and Humanities (English, Social Studies and World Language) classes (3/18).

The tutoring is open to all 9th and 10th graders, and we hope to see them in the Library on 3/11 at 3 pm. We are sending specific invites to students and parents who are failing these courses, so you may receive additional communication.

If you have any questions please email Berto Barrett at robert_barrett@dpsk12.net.

Thank you!

Ongoing Phishing Incident Targeting DPS Students With Fake Job Opportunities

DPS continues to see significant phishing incidents targeting students with fake job opportunities. These phishing emails encourage students to enter their contact information into a Google Form that malicious cyberattackers then use to shift the communication to text messages directly with the student.

Once a student has shared their contact information, they could experience identity theft, financial theft or even more.

Here are a few tips or "look fors" to identify a scam:

1. Email Subject Lines such as

    a. "Exciting Part-Time Administrative Assistant Opportunity!"

    b. "Denver Public Schools, Act Now."

2. Red Flags

    a. You are directed to a login page that is not the DPS Blue Login Page (DPS does not use Microsoft 365 as a          normal login screen).

    b. The request is from someone outside DPS.

    c. The request is from someone you do not know.

    d. You see an alert message that the email is from "outside your organization."

    e. It is a request to purchase gift cards.

    f. It is a request to pay up front for a job opportunity.

    g. It is a request to cash checks from the other party to use as funds to buy gift cards or products.

Please help us by sharing the above with students. And, if you hear of any emails that seem inappropriate or malicious, please use either the phish hook in Gmail or contact DoTS Service Desk at dotshelp.dpsk12.org.

Lime and Other Electric Scooters/Bikes

Please ensure all Lime and electric scooters, bikes are parked in the bike rack area in front of the school. If scooters are parked in various areas around the school, they become a hazard to passing cars and pedestrians. Thank you!

**Make up Testing Begins Monday April 20th at 8:20 in the Library**

- From April 14th - 17th East High School students will participate in SAT, PSAT, and CMAS Science tests as required by the state of Colorado.

- This is a chance for students and their families to get feedback on student progress and college readiness.

- All 11th grade students taking the SAT free of charge have the opportunity to send their scores to colleges to be considered for admissions decisions.

- Parents or guardians who would like to decline their student’s College Board approved testing accommodations for the April administration of the SAT or PSAT should email our Site Assessment Leader Jessica Perkins at jperkin@dpsk12.net by March 13th. Any requests made after that date may not be guaranteed because accommodations are built into the digital testing format.

- These test scores affect East High School’s ratings on the state of Colorado’s School Performance Framework.

- The guardian of a Denver Public Schools student, can request to excuse their child from participating in the state assessments. If you wish to opt your child out, follow the directions at:

Parent Opt Out Instructions English

Parent Opt Out Instructions Spanish

- Please note: only opt your child out of the specific test(s) you do not wish them to take. For example, if you do not want your student to take the CMAS test only but DO want them to take the SAT, then you will only choose CMAS. If you choose all tests, then their P/SAT registration will also be removed.

- The deadline for opting out is February 27th. After this date any opt out requests need to be in writing and directed to mark_saucedo@dpsk12.net.

Fundraising Opportunities

Boys to Men Club

Dear East High School Parent Community,

We are reaching out to ask for your support of the East High School Boys to Men Club, a student-led program that meets weekly to provide young men with a space to grow, reflect, and develop important life skills. Through guided conversations, guest speakers, and discussions with groups of female students, the club focuses on helping young men learn how to regulate their emotions, understand the importance of strong mental health supports, and emulate positive male role models. In addition to our weekly meetings, our students mentor younger boys at Polaris Elementary and Columbine Elementary, and over the past three years our members have worked with more than 120 fourth and fifth-grade boys. Our goal is to raise $3,000, which will help provide food for our club meetings and materials that support our mentoring sessions with these elementary students. Any contribution, big or small, will directly support this meaningful work and help our students continue building a positive community of mentorship and leadership. Thank you for considering supporting this important program at
East.

American Driving School for East Students

American Driving Academy has taught hundreds of Denver East students over the years; however, with the new law starting January 1st of next year, they would like to make driver's education more affordable and accessible to Denver East students. Starting January 1st, 2027, everyone under the age of 18 will have to take a driver's education course to get a permit. Currently, only 15-year-olds have to take a course. American Driving Academy wants to make it as little a financial burden as possible and give students an easy way to find driver's education information.

The average online 30-hour course from local schools here in Colorado charges $75. American Driving Academy would like to offer it to Denver East students for $29.85. They would also like to offer students discounted prices on their in-person and driving lesson packages.

To sign up, please visit bookings.americandrivingacademy.com/East. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call 303-623-1404.
