Celebrating National School Nurse Day

Dear Team DPS,

This week is National Nurses Week and today we celebrate National School Nurse Day! Thank you to all 153 school nurses in DPS who help our students thrive by keeping them safe and healthy. Thank you for providing and advocating for quality, student-centered care that makes a positive difference for our students.

A school nurse responds to student injury and illness, administers medication and offers mental health support on a daily basis. Yet, being a school nurse is much more than band-aids and ice packs. Our talented school nurses manage comprehensive care for entire school communities. They are a critical safety net for our students. School nurses also coordinate care for school health services, 504 and IEP plans and emergencies with their school teams. Above all, they are dedicated to promoting wellness and improving student outcomes.

School nurses, thank you for helping serve students and promoting health and safety at the schools you serve. The work you do has massive impacts and goes a long way in ensuring Every Learner Thrives.

Respectfully,

Dr. Tony Smith
Deputy Superintendent
