Dora Moore Elementary

Weekly Follow Up: 9/26/25

Nurturing kind, curious learners!

Hi Families!

There are more details below, but we wanted to highlight that student portfolios were sent home in more classes and grades on Friday. At Dora Moore, we value working together with families to support each student’s success. One way we do this is by sending home learning portfolios a few times during the year. These binders include key tests and schoolwork so you can see how your child is doing and talk with them about their learning.

You might be wondering, "What do I do with it?" Great question--

Sit with your student, read the cover page, review and talk about each artifact together, leave everything in the portfolio, sign the cover page and return it to your homeroom teacher!

Sincerely,

Mr. Janson & Mrs. Watson

Golden Eagle Award

You Are Invited: August/September Golden Eagle Award Assembly on Thursday @ 11:15am

If your student brought home a Golden Eagle Award and bracelet in August or September, they have been nominated by their teacher for demonstrating and living out our school’s core value of Community. Hopefully your student excitedly brought home their swag--We are so proud of them!

We are committed to increasing our family partnerships this year, and celebrating our students with you is an important aspect of this partnership. We will send individual emails as well, but you are invited to celebrate your child during our monthly Golden Eagle Award and Student Celebration Assembly on Thursday, October 2nd from 11:15am - 11:45am. This assembly is a short, public way to recognize each award winning student for the month, and encourage all students to continue to live out our core values of Community, Kindness, Curiosity, and Excellence each day. Our hope and goal is for all students to earn this recognition through their consistent effort and hard work.

Hopefully you can join us!

October Attendance Challenge

October Attendance Challenge

We are excited to announce our October month-long attendance challenge! Students are more successful and confident in themselves and their abilities when they attend school with consistency. Students with perfect attendance (which includes no tardies or early departures) at the end of each week will be entered into a weekly classroom raffle to win a treat. At the end of October, any student who has achieved our school-wide goal of 90% attendance will be entered into a raffle for more exciting prizes (such as a bike or gift card to take their family out to dinner!). One student per grade level will be selected. We are looking forward to an October of scary-good attendance!

Student Portfolios--Sign and Return by Thursday

Student portfolios were sent home in more classes and grades on Friday. These portfolios are our consistent, universal tier of communication with you about your student's progress and the content we are covering. One of our major improvement strategies as a school is to strengthen our Family and Community Partnerships through pro-active, transparent, two way communication between our school and each family as well as increase the opportunities to collaborate to ensure exceptional growth for each student.

These portfolios will be sent home five times throughout the year. You might be wondering, "What do I do with it?" Great question!

  1. Sit with your student

  2. Read the cover page

  3. Review and talk about each artifact together

  4. Leave everything in the portfolio

  5. Sign the cover page and return it to your homeroom teacher!

We will be tracking return rates for each individual classroom with the expectation and goal that we receive 100% of the binders back by Thursday, October 2nd. Wonderful prizes to the classrooms with the highest return rates and fun raffles for those with their binder returned each day.
