Weekly Follow Up: 4/25/26

Hello!

We are done with CMAS assessments for 3rd-5th grade. Thank you to each family for getting your students to school each day allowing us to get to 100% completion. Though we all have our feelings about standardized testing, CMAS is important for us in a school in many ways with the state and the district--so we greatly appreciate your efforts!

We are shocked to be heading into our last week of April already and May is shaping up to be great with Field Day, field trips, our annual Block Party, end of year picnics, and much more.

I know we say this sometimes--but please read the information below! It might be the longest, most dense newsletter we've ever sent with lots of important information!

Sincerely,

Mr. Janson & Mrs. Watson

New Assistant Principal Announcement

I am happy to announce that after a thorough and thoughtful interview process, we have selected Julie Cruz as our new Assistant Principal. Julie brings a wealth of experience as an AP in DPS at both Schmidt and Traylor Elementary and as a District instructional partner. She has a strong commitment to our school community, and I am confident she will be a wonderful addition to our leadership team and a great compliment to the work Mrs. Watson has led and built.

Our committee screened applicants for Student Support Liaison, Dean of Culture, Dean of Instruction, and Assistant Principals. Based on the identified instructional needs of our building and pool of applicants, the committee decided to move forward with Instruction and Assistant Principal candidates first. We ran parallel processes interviewing candidates in both roles before ultimately landing on Julie as our next AP.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to our hiring committee for their time, dedication, and feedback throughout this search. I am incredibly grateful to Peter Lomba, Michelle Kravets, Casey Callan, Steph Walker, and Sara Jackson for their hard work in ensuring we found the right candidate for this role.

We look forward to introducing Mrs. Cruz to you all soon.

Sincerely,

Mr. Janson

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is Coming: May 4th - May 8th

Help us honor the amazing people who make a difference in our children’s lives everyday.

Here are two tangible ways we'd love for you to show up:

Write your student(s) teacher (and any other staff!) a note of appreciation and gratitude. It's free and means more than you'll ever know.

Bring them a small treat--little goodies are a tiny token and surely does not capture the depth of our appreciation, but it also goes a long way in communicating your gratitude!

Click here to access the link of staff favorites.

Knowing that it takes each and every position, each grade-level has been paired up with other additional staff to ensure we do our best to take care of those that don't have homeroom classrooms of their own. Take a look at the table below to find an additional staff member (far right column) or two to treat!

For anyone interested in participating, Dora Moore staff and families will meet at the corner of 9th Avenue & Emerson street outside of Our Savior's Lutheran Church between 8:35am - 8:50am. We will have some lite breakfast treats as everyone gathers. At 8:50am, we will walk, bike, & roll to school as a large group listening to Queen's Bicycle Race and Ghoti Hook's My Bike.
