Hello Ravens, 

We hope you had a great week! Please be advised that starting on Saturday, September 13, 2025 we will begin paving our west parking lot.

Additionally, barricades and areas of the parking lot will be roped off while the construction area is an active work zone. All equipment will be picked up and removed from the parking lot on Sunday of each weekend before school starts on Monday the following day.

This project will be ongoing for the next 3 weekends and is scheduled for the following days below:

• 9/13/25-9/14/25 

• 9/20/25-9/21/25

• 9/27/25-9/28/25

Testing Dates

• 9th graders will take the PSAT 8/9 on October 14th. Only 9th grade students will report to school on October 14th.

• 10th and 11th grade students will take the NMSQT test on October 15th.  Only 10th and 11th grade students will report to school on October 15th. 

• School will resume as normal on October 16th.

Make-up testing will be offered to 11th grade students only.  Reach out to Ms. Blake at nblake@dpsk12.net if you are an 11th grader who cannot attend testing on October 15th and would like the opportunity to make up the test.

Homecoming Information

Homecoming is fast approaching. The Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 4th. For South students who wish to bring a guest from another school, students are required to fill out a form (located in the front office) for admin approval. Bringing an outside guest is only available for Junior and Senior students. Students are allowed one guest.

For space and security, we are limiting the number of outside guests to 50 students. Guest forms must be submitted to Mr. Ortega in Room 113B no later than Friday, September 26th at 3:40 pm. Forms will be reviewed and approved on a first come, first serve basis. Once 50 guest students have been approved, no other applications will be collected. Forms received after the 26th of Friday deadline will not be accepted.  All guests must be under the age of 21, be a current high school student, and must possess a picture ID upon entry to the event.

Please note, there is a required 90% attendance rate for all South students to be eligible for participation in Homecoming activities. Students below 90% attendance will be notified by email on Monday, September 15th. There will be opportunities to increase their attendance rate starting next week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students will be able to attend lunch detention for a 2.5% boost toward Homecoming eligibility. On Saturday, September 27th, students will be able to attend a 2-hour Saturday school session that can increase attendance by 5%. For students interested in addressing attendance concerns, please see Mr. Rimkus in Room 101B.

• Thursday, October 2nd from 1:00-2:00 pm in the East Parking Lot.

College Fairs of Greater Denver (primarily out-of-state schools)

• Thursday, October 9th from 5:30-7:00 pm in the South Main Gym - More information to come!

National Association for College Admissions College Fair

• Saturday, October 25th from 1:00-4:00 pm at University of Colorado Indoor Practice facility.

2026 Graduation Day has been confirmed!

The Class of 2026 Graduation Ceremony will be on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 6:00 PM at DU's Magness Arena.

Substance Use Prevention Webinar Series presents: Free Tools for Change: Simple Solutions for Parents and Communities. This workshop will demonstrate how “Talk. They Hear You.” serves as a starting point for initiating conversations and making a lasting impact on the health and well-being of youth. Attendees will gain an understanding of the “Talk. They Hear You.” campaign, which aims to reduce underage drinking and substance use among youth under 21 by providing youth-serving professionals, families, parents, and caregivers with information and resources to address these issues early and often. The Denver South Giving Grocery provides FREE, fresh, and healthy groceries, including meat, eggs, milk, produce, and bread, to South students every Thursday. There is no need to sign up in advance. Wednesday, September 17, mention South HS and 40% of South generated food sales goes back to our PTSA!  You can buy a cake, sammie, quart, cone, milkshake.  If it is on the ice cream menu, it counts!  All day, open to close.
