Week of March 2nd-6th

Denver South Ravens

Hello Ravens,

We hope you had a great week. Next week we have PSAT testing on 3/3.

On March 3rd all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will take a PSAT/SAT practice exam.  The purpose of this test is to encourage students to practice the test taking strategies that they have been learning in their classes and to identify areas of strength and growth prior to taking the official SAT in April. In order to minimize lost instructional time, we will be completing all testing in one day, with 9th and 10th graders testing in the morning and 11th graders testing in the afternoon.

All 9th graders and 10th graders need to report to school on Tuesday, March 3rd  by 8:15 to take the practice test.

All 11th graders need to report to school on Tuesday, March 3rd by 11:30 to take the practice test.

All students need a school-issued Chromebook and charger in order to take the practice test. Students who haven’t been issued a school-provided Chromebook can check one out from library 300 on March 3rd.

Opt-Outs
If you would like to opt your student out of the PSAT/SAT practice test, please email Natalie Blake at nblake@dpsk12.net. If students are not opted-out of the practice test, they  are expected to be in the building during their scheduled testing time on March 3rd. Please note that opting your student out of the practice test does not opt them out of the official PSAT/SAT that will take place in April.

Tonight Boys Basketball will host Regis in the playoffs at Denver South 7pm. We expect a sellout crowd! Please purchase your tickets in advance here https://gofan.co/event/6191796?schoolId=CO27279

Students athlete stickers are not acceptable for playoff events and a purchased ticket will be required.

Next week is also Wish Week! You can read more about our 2026 Wish Kid, Dante. We kick-off Wish Week events tomorrow with our 5K Race for Wishes. Registration and check-in begins at 8:30am on the South front lawn. We hope to see you there!

Have a great weekend.

Go Ravens!

CE 1098T Forms

If your student has taken a Concurrent Enrollment college course, you may receive a
Tax form 1098T Form.

Although it is mandatory that the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) provide this form to all students, CCCS and colleges are not allowed to offer tax or legal advice to students. Specifically, this form is informational only and should not be considered as tax opinion or advice. It serves to alert students that they may be eligible for federal income tax education credit such as the Lifetime Learning Credit and the Hope Credit as part of their federal income tax return.

Parents and students should be referred to their tax consultant to determine if and how to utilize this form in the preparation and submission of their taxes.

Per IRS regulations, all students, including dual enrolled/concurrent students, are issued a 1098T tax information form each year a student attends/participates in higher learning education credit bearing courses. The college is required to report all eligible payments made to the college for the tax year that is received from all sources. This includes payments made by the K-12 schools to the college for the student's college costs. If the taxpayer paid any college costs out of pocket for the tax year, the taxpayer can use their receipts to claim any eligible educational credit on tax forms. The 1098T is simply an information form and is not required to be used for tax purposes. If the taxpayer did not pay out of pocket for college costs, the taxpayer would not use the form for claiming education credits. IRS publication 970 is available online for explanation of education tax credits.

Please refer to the 1098-T FAQ provided by CCCS, which outlines everything there is to know about this form: https://cdn.cccs.edu/students/1098-T%20FAQ.pdf
