Dear DCTA Educators,
There have been a number of employees who have reached out with questions regarding when the $1,000 one-time payment from the financial agreement will be paid to returning DCTA employees. We certainly appreciate the issue being raised and would like to address the concerns.
The financial agreement jointly agreed to by DCTA and DPS states, “During each year, if the full COLA is not credited after the BS Factor buy down, returning teachers will receive a one-time payment of $1,000.” Since the full COLA was not credited after the BS Factor buy-down, Denver Public Schools will be providing returning teachers with a one-time payment of $1,000 during the 2024-25 school year.
While the financial agreement outlines the one-time payment of $1,000, it does not provide any detail as to the exact timing of the $1,000 payment. As such, the timing of the payment is within the District’s discretion. DPS had intended this payment to occur in September. As you may be aware, DCTA has initiated arbitration disputing the interpretation of the financial agreement including the section referenced above. The District will wait until the arbitrator’s recommendation is provided to the Board of Education before taking further action.
Sincerely,
David Rowan
Director of Compensation
