Summary/ Introduction:
Last week at DCIS at Fairmont we welcomed back our students and families from Fall Break, our 1st graders went on a field trip, and we had our first snowy indoor recess! As temperatures drop, please remember to send students to school with jackets, hats, gloves, and scarves. We will be outside whenever possible, and want to make sure students stay warm! This week our 4th graders will head to Loveland for a ski trip, our 3rd and 5th graders will have an assembly on computer science, and our K-2nd graders will take the stage to perform at our annual Winterfest concert. Winterfest will take place on Thursday, at DCIS at BAKER! See below for student arrival times, and for more information. Next week, we will have a spirit week to bring 2025 to a joyful close. Resumen/Introducción:
La semana pasada en DCIS at Fairmont dimos la bienvenida nuevamente a nuestros estudiantes y familias después del receso de otoño, nuestros estudiantes de 1.º grado realizaron una excursión y ¡tuvimos nuestro primer recreo con nieve! A medida que bajan las temperaturas, por favor recuerden mandar a sus estudiantes a la escuela con chaquetas, gorros, guantes y bufandas. Estaremos al aire libre siempre que sea posible y queremos asegurarnos de que los estudiantes se mantengan abrigados. Esta semana, nuestros estudiantes de 4.º grado irán a Loveland para un viaje de esquí, los de 3.º y 5.º grado tendrán una asamblea sobre ciencias de la computación, y nuestros estudiantes de K a 2.º grado subirán al escenario para presentarse en nuestro concierto anual Winterfest. Winterfest se llevará a cabo el jueves, ¡en DCIS en BAKER! A continuación encontrarán los horarios de llegada de los estudiantes y más información. Dine Out for DCIS is Monday, December 8th at Shake Shack from 10AM-10PM!
This is a great chance to take a night off from cooking, catch up with school friends, and support our PTA at the same time. Donations Day starts at 10AM so you can have the whole office order lunch and giveback too!
How it works:
Dine in or take out at the Shake Shack at 260 N Josephine St on 12/8 from 10AM to 10PM.

Exploring Dual Language Middle School Options for 5th Grade Families
As your student prepares to transition to middle school, we encourage you to consider programs that continue developing bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural understanding. Students who have participated in dual language programs have built a strong foundation in both English and Spanish, and continuing this pathway in middle school helps strengthen academic skills, language proficiency, and cognitive flexibility.
Several middle schools in Denver currently offer, or are developing, Dual Language or bilingual programming options. These schools provide opportunities for students to continue learning in two languages while engaging in rigorous content and meaningful cultural experiences.
We encourage families to explore these programs during the SchoolChoice process, attend school tours or information sessions, and ask questions about language pathways, course offerings, and student support. Below is the list of these middle schools, let us know if you have any questions.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to express themselves creatively. Classroom teachers will begin this work with students at school, and we hope you can continue supporting them at home by helping them complete and submit their pieces.
We hope families and students find this experience fun, engaging, and inspiring. We look forward to seeing many young poets have their work published in the District’s book at the end of the year.

Holiday Staff Appreciation Lunch - We need your Help!
Tuesday December 16th we will be celebrating all DCIS at Fairmont staff with a holiday appreciation lunch. We need volunteers to bring drinks and/or dessert and help to serve staff during the lunch from 11AM-1PM. Sign up to donate or help!
We are also collecting $15 gift cards and donations to purchase gift cards so every staff member receives a gift this holiday season. Please bring gift cards to the front office or donate directly here!
