February Attendance Challenges:

Attendance Celebration:

Last week we had THREE days where our school reached 90% (or higher) in our daily attendance! This is a huge celebration - keep up the hard work ensuring your students are at school as much as possible.

Let’s aim for even more days!

4th Social Studies and 5th Science Interims:

We had a successful week of literacy and math interims! Thank you parents for ensuring your students were here on time and ready to test.

Next week our 4th graders have social studies interim 2 and 5th graders have science interim 2 to finish our district testing window!

Spring Parent Teacher Conferences:

On February 27th from 8:00am - 11:30 (K-5) and 12:30-4:00pm (ECE) classroom teachers will be holding select parent teacher conferences. Please keep an eye out for parent communication from your child’s homeroom teacher with details.

Basketball Practice at Cowell:

Our 3rd - 5th grade basketball season has officially started! Practices will be after school on Monday and Wednesdays with Coach Kay in the gym.

Next Practice will be Wednesday, February 18th.

K-2nd Music Program:

Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd grade have begun their weekly music program called KinderBop. Each week they are receiving a music class that exposes them to singing, instrument play and even dance. How fun!

The Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Library

Librarian Tip: Listening to stories is fun (even for older kids!)

Did you know that your child is never too old to be read to? That's right--even your middle school student can enjoy the benefits of hearing a story aloud! Hearing stories strengthens the part of the brain associated with visual imagery, story comprehension, and word meaning. It can also give kids the vocabulary to talk about difficult topics, and it may even provide an opportunity to start a conversation with you about something they've been struggling with. Set aside a few minutes a day to read aloud from a chapter book that your whole family will enjoy, or check out a Playaway from the library and listen in the car. Librarians also encourage picture books for all ages! There are many beautiful picture books with stories that appeal to adults and teens. Come by the Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales Branch and ask a librarian to help you find the perfect book to read aloud to your child.
