Dear Buffalo Families,
We hope you enjoy a restful and joyful winter break. As we begin a new year together, we are excited to continue partnering with you to support every student’s growth and success.
At our last Café con las Líderes, we welcomed a special guest from Movimiento Poder, who shared valuable information about knowing your rights. If you were unable to attend or would like to review the resources, you can connect with our Family & Parent Liaison, Martha Juarez.
As we head into January, many of our students will be taking the ACCESS assessment—an annual English language proficiency test for K–12 English Learners (ELs). This assessment measures students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in academic contexts. We are incredibly proud of our students and all the hard work they put into showing their growth and progress each year.
A quick reminder that Round 1 Choice Enrollment opened on December 2 and will close on January 20th. Please visit dpsk12.org to confirm your intent for the 2026–2027 school year. If you need assistance or have any questions, our main office is happy to help.
Thank you for your continued trust, partnership, and support. We are grateful for our Buffalo community and look forward to a great start to the new year!

New Year, New Goals — Let’s Make Attendance Count!
As we kick off the new year, we’re setting a powerful Buffalo resolution: Show up, shine bright, and stay strong! Thanks to our amazing families, we’re making big strides toward our 95% attendance goal. We had a small dip in November and December, but January is our fresh start — and we’re ready to level up!
Every day in school is a step toward growth, confidence, and success. Let’s commit to our 2025 attendance resolution together and make this our best year yet.
Here’s to showing up, Buffalos! 🦬✨
Staying Warm This Season
With the colder weather settling in, we want to make sure every Buffalo stays cozy and ready to learn. Our school is warm and welcoming each day—filled with delicious breakfasts and lunches, supportive routines, friends to connect with, and wonderful teachers who are excited to see your child.
If your child needs winter clothing, our school office has jackets and warm gear available—just stop by, and we’ll be happy to help.
For even more options, our Community Hub at 1850 South Irving Street, Denver, CO 80219 offers a wide selection of clothing and additional family supports. We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership and all they provide to our CMS community during the winter season.
Stay warm, Buffalos! 🧣❄️
With appreciation,
Dr. Esmeralda Orrin, Assistant Principal
