Family Newsletter - May 2026

Dear CMS Families,

Thank you for a truly wonderful school year. I could not be prouder to serve as the principal of this incredible community. It has been a joy to witness the growth, resilience, and accomplishments of our students, and I am deeply grateful for your continued partnership and support.

As we close out the year, our school is filled with celebrations, performances, and opportunities to honor the hard work of our students and staff. From classroom milestones to end-of-year events, this is a special time to reflect on all that has been achieved.

A few important reminders as we head into the final weeks:

*Please keep an eye out for communication from us in our Wednesday folders.  We will list continue to share important information and upcoming events

*Read through this newsletter as it too has important information and upcoming dates

*Ensure all library books are returned on time.

*Continue supporting strong attendance—every day counts, even in the final weeks of school.

Looking ahead, I am excited to continue our journey together into the 2026–2027 school year. We remain committed to providing a high-quality, engaging, and supportive learning environment for all students. You can always find more information about next school year, including important dates and updates on our school website at https://cmscommunityschool.dpsk12.org/

Attendance

We’ve seen positive progress in reducing chronic absenteeism, though it has slightly increased this past month and is approaching 30%. Our goal is 27%, and we need your partnership to get there. Ensuring your child attends school every day truly makes a difference.

Our overall attendance rate is currently 92%.

These gains matter. Every day your child is present is an opportunity to build skills, strengthen relationships, and stay on track for success. Thank you for continuing to support strong attendance habits.

We’re Hiring: 1:1 Paraprofessional

CMS is currently seeking a dedicated 1:1 paraprofessional to join our team. This position runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., making it a great fit for those who want to work while maintaining a schedule similar to their child’s school day.

In this role, you will work closely with one student, providing individualized support to help them succeed throughout the school day.

Qualifications:

High school diploma required

If you’re interested, we encourage you to apply at the DPS Job Board.

CMS Value - Community

Our CMS value of the month is Community—a value that sits at the heart of who we are and how we support one another.

At CMS, community means more than just sharing a building. It’s about creating a space where every student feels seen, valued, and connected. It’s the relationships our students build with one another, the care our staff shows each day, and the partnership we continue to strengthen with you—our families.

Throughout this month, we will be focusing on what it means to contribute to a positive community. Students will reflect on how their actions impact others, practice empathy and inclusion, and find ways to lift each other up both inside and outside the classroom. Whether it’s through collaborative learning, acts of kindness, or simply checking in on a friend, we are encouraging all students to take an active role in building a strong and supportive environment.

We also want to recognize that our CMS community is made stronger by the diversity of cultures, languages, and experiences that each of our families brings. Thank you for being an essential part of this community and for partnering with us in creating a place where all students can thrive.

Together, we are CMS—and together, we build community.
