Family Newsletter - April 2026

Dear Buffalo Families,

Can you believe there are only 35.5 days of school left this year? Time has flown by, and we are so proud of all that our students and staff have accomplished together.

This year, we have placed a strong focus on attendance, because we know that when students are in school, they learn, grow, and thrive. Our incredible teachers are committed to delivering high-quality instruction every single day, and your partnership in getting students to school has made a meaningful difference.

Thanks to your support, we are seeing real progress:

Our chronic absenteeism rate has dropped from 37% to 29%

Our overall attendance rate is currently 92%.

These gains matter. Every day your child is present is an opportunity to build skills, strengthen relationships, and stay on track for success.

As we return from Spring Break, we will begin CMAS testing. It is especially important during this time that students are at school every day and on time so they can show all that they have learned this year. We know they are ready!

We also have many exciting events coming up and would love for you to join us:

CMAS Tips for Families

*Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep

*Arrive on time (testing often starts first thing)

*Encourage a positive mindset (“Just do your best!”)

*Avoid scheduling appointments during testing days

CMS Values

In March, we focused on the value of Respect. Throughout the school, we saw students demonstrating respect in meaningful ways—listening attentively to their teachers and classmates, using kind and inclusive language, and taking care of shared spaces like classrooms and the playground. Students also showed respect by celebrating each other’s ideas and differences, helping to create a positive and welcoming school environment.

We even had a very special visitor this month—Miles from the Denver Broncos! His visit was an exciting way to celebrate our students and reinforce the importance of positive behavior and school pride. We invite you to visit our website to see photos from this memorable day and to stay updated on upcoming events:

As we move into April, our focus shifts to the value of Perseverance. This means continuing to try, even when something feels challenging. At CMS, perseverance might look like:

*A student working through a difficult math problem without giving up

*Continuing to practice reading, even when the text feels tough

*Asking for help and trying again after making a mistake

*Staying focused and giving full effort during CMAS testing

Perseverance helps our students grow stronger, more confident, and more independent learners. We look forward to celebrating these efforts throughout the month!

Thank you for supporting our CMS values at home and helping us build a strong, respectful, and resilient school community.

Concurso de Deletreo (Spanish Spelling Bee)

We are proud to share that our CMS Concurso de Deletreo for students in grades 4–6 was a great success! We are especially excited to announce that two outstanding students will be representing CMS at the Colorado State Spanish Spelling Bee at Regis University on April 11th.

Please join us in wishing Abi (5th grade) and Ian (4th grade) the very best of luck as they advance to the state competition. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, courage, and commitment to bilingualism and academic excellence.

¡Buena suerte, Abi e Ian! We will be cheering you on!

Closing

As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we are grateful for your continued partnership and support. Together, we are building a strong community where students feel valued, challenged, and inspired to grow.

Let’s continue to work together to ensure every day counts. We look forward to a strong finish and to celebrating all that our students accomplish in these final weeks!

With appreciation,

Dr. Esmeralda Orrin, Assistant Principal
