Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales Librarians Recommend: We Are Grateful: Otsaliheliga by Traci Sorell

During the month of November, many families in North America take time to reflect on what they are grateful for. November is also Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage Month, when we honor the culture, history, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples in this country. In the standout picture book We Are Grateful: Otsaliheliga, Cherokee Nation citizen Traci Sorell takes readers on a journey of gratitude through every season of life and nature. The whole family, from very young readers to older elementary kids, will find something to enjoy in this vibrant book. An opportunity to engage in conversation about gratitude and the culture and customs of the modern Cherokee people, this book may spark a new tradition around your family’s table this fall season. Check it out from the Denver Public Library today, and stop by the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch to browse the Indigenous Peoples’ Heritage Month display throughout November.

Inclement Weather Arrival and Dismissal Plan

Cheltenham Elementary doors open at 7:20 a.m., even in cases of inclement weather. We are unable to provide safe coverage for students before this time. In the case of inclement weather at arrival, we will open the doors at 7:20 a.m. and have students move to the cafeteria until 7:25 a.m., when classrooms will open. Students will grab breakfast on the way to class. In the case of inclement weather at dismissal, we reserve the need to 'hold' students in the building in the case of unsafe weather conditions. In other cases, please go to your students' regular pick-up location. Teachers will dismiss students individually from the building door when they see students' caregivers.

Tasty Food Program

Tasty Food will be operating during DPS’ Thanksgiving break (Nov. 24-29) to help ensure that no child or youth goes hungry during their week off. Saturday lunches will still be available for youth on Saturday, Nov. 29. All youth ages three to 18 are welcome to stop by for a free meal. No ID or registration is required.
