May Family Engagement Tip: Transitioning from School Routine to Summer Break Routine

Preparing for summer break, avoiding the summer slide & checking in with families about how they’re feeling with summer around the corner. School staff check-in with families about how they are feeling about summer break coming up, daily routines/structure.

Keep things consistent while keeping your student’s skills sharp! Create a Summer Routine chart. Young children thrive on knowing what comes next. Even if it’s just daily morning reading, outside time, and independent play time, having a visual schedule prevents the summer slide by planning out 20 minutes for literacy.

A great example of this is setting up a weekly visit to the local library to keep books in the house for daily reading time together!
