Earlier today, Kaiser Permanente prematurely sent out an email stating that DPS will be transitioning health care providers. It is important to note that this process is not yet completed.
We apologize that you learned about this development from Kaiser rather than from us. As many of you know, health care costs have been skyrocketing across the United States. To ensure our employees receive the best care at the most affordable price, we launched a Request for Proposal (RFP) earlier this year. Four companies responded to this RFP.
After a rigorous screening process, MotivHealth and UnitedHealthcare were selected as the new health care providers for DPS. Kaiser finished in last place. If Kaiser had been chosen, health care costs would have increased three times the current level.
Looking ahead, it is important to note that Kaiser incorrectly stated that the DPS Board of Education would vote on the new healthcare providers at its December 18 meeting. The next step in this process is for the Benefits Selection Board to meet in mid-January to discuss and select the new plan offerings from Motiv and United. Once those are chosen, the Board of Education will vote.
We are committed to keeping you informed on new plan options once they are selected and approved by the Board of Education. We expect to provide you with more detailed information in February 2026 so that your family can find the right plan during the spring Open Enrollment window.
Please know that we will do everything we can to ensure a smooth transition. Both Motiv and United will provide a transition-of-care plan. This means if you are pregnant, are undergoing cancer treatments, or have another significant medical need, we will work with you and our other providers to develop a plan to transition at the appropriate time. It is also important to note that no plans will transition until July 1, 2026. This means that you will keep your current plan until then.
