Principal Sutherland's Message!

Hello Yeti Families,

It's hard to believe that February is already over! We're heading into March, and that means that Spring Break is right around the corner.

This month your students engaged with a lot of great things:  Black History Month lessons in LC, Unit assessments, and Interims in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies (in 7th) and Science (in 8th). 8th graders also had 1:1 admin conferences with Mr. Plesko and myself in which we discussed your student being on or off track.

Here are next steps:

6-8th = Ask your students about how they did on their interim 2 test. "How did the test feel? What did you feel success in? What was hard?"

8th= What are your goals based on your 1:1 with Mr. Plesko or Mrs. Sutherland?

Fun fact for February!!! GLACIERS won the house competition!!! We celebrated with burritos, raffles, music and time with friends / fellow Glaciers.

Attendance reminder: Yeti families, we need your student here 93% of the time. Being late to school counts against their attendance; those minutes are adding up for too many students, causing them to be off track. If you have questions about this, please reach out.

Let's make next week and this upcoming month Yeti-tastic!

Quarter 3 Celebration - Friday 3/6!

We are so YETI excited that his Friday 3/6, during the school day is our Quarter 3 Celebration. We will have a modified bell schedule to shorten our classes to allow our celebration to run from 1:15-3:50pm.

The afternoon will include 3 rotations; 2 of which will be on-campus and 1 will be a walking field trip to a neighborhood eatery where students bring their own money to purchase a treat.

Last week students were able to rank their choices (McDonalds, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Gas Station, Sabor Express or Eternal Flavors) so that we can schedule each grade level accordingly as we will be spacing out their time off campus. We have supervision scheduled to support a safe journey for all and have also asked DPS Security and DPD Station 4 to support at crosswalks. If you are interested in helping support while students are traveling off campus, please email Mama Yeti at sarah_masten@dpsk12.net.

We are suggesting students to bring $5-$10 to spend. If your family is in financial hardships and need support please fill out this form as we want to ensure all students can buy their own treat! Also, if you are in a capacity to be able to donate we will be collecting cash in the front office throughout the week.

As a reminder students had 3 requirements to meet in order to participate in this Celebration:

1-  No ISS/OSS or lunch detention for major behavior issues

2 – Passing grades (no Ds or Fs)

3-  Finished ICAP for Q1, Q2 and Q3

INELIGIBLE students will be dismissed to classrooms that will help support them with completing missing work and doing self reflection activities to help them finish quarter 3 strong and be ready for a fresh start when Quarter 4

If you have any questions or wonder if your child will be eligible please call the main office or email us at bvoffice@dpsk12.org

8th Grade Continuation Lifetouch Photo Day!

8th grade Continuation photos will be taken on Tuesday 3/17!

ALL students take a FREE photo as it creates a keepsake item to go along with their certificate they receive at the Continuation ceremony.

Students are allowed to be in FREE DRESS but still need to respect the unacceptable dress code guidelines.

See below for ordering direction if you are interested in ordering a photo package in addition to the free photo on their certificate.

Go to mylifetouch.com and enter our Picture Day ID EVTJXNXMJ

Not A Number Curriculum!

The BVMS Mental Health Team will be facilitating the Not a Number (NAN) curriculum for the second year in a row. This week-long curriculum will take place in 8th-grade Social Studies classes week of March 16th-20th.

The goal of the NAN curriculum is to provide students with age-appropriate information and skills in a way that empowers them to make safe, informed choices when faced with potentially exploitative situations and to recognize and utilize healthy support systems that can reduce vulnerability.

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Ms. Ffrench, School Social Worker at lacresha_ffrench@dpsk12.net

King Soopers Reward Program

Did you know that King Soopers accounts can sign up for “Community Award” and they donate a percentage of the purchase to the selected organization, at no extra cost to the shopper.

Below is the instructions on how to select Bear Valley International for your Community Award. The program does not impact your personal award or fuel points earned.

Log into your King Soopers account online, go to home>My Account>Community Rewards, then search for Bear Valley International (PR112) and then click enrolled.

Currently we are getting roughly $300 per quarter to support all the celebrations and snacks we provide the students.  We would love to see that number double or even triple since adding us to your community rewards is a FREE way to earn money for our amazing students.
