Yeti Families,
We've had a great first 30 days at Bear Valley Middle. Every year we make gains culturally and academically!
Here's a couple questions you can ask at home:
~"Are you on track?" This means - No Ds or F, 93% or higher attendance, No major behavior incidents, and iCap is up to date (this happens in LC).
~"How did your unit assessment go?" - As of now, your student has had unit assessments in most of their core classes (Science, Math, Social Studies, Language Arts)
Also, our first Interim Assessments for Social Studies, Science, Math, and Language Arts are NEXT WEEK on Tuesday 10/7 and Wednesday 10/8!
How can you help your student prepare?
~Ensure they are off technology at night and get SLEEP!!!!
~Ensure your student is on time so they can get all the testing time they need to do well.
Thank you for being amazing families. I am so lucky to lead BVMS, and my door is always open if you want to chat about anything ;)
Rachael Sutherland, your proud Principal

Dear Bear Valley Families our our Multilingual Learners,
We warmly invite you to join us for a special evening of celebration, culture, and community during Fall Family Conferences on:
📅 Thursday, October 9
Conferences 4:30–7:00 pm | Potluck & Celebration 6:00–7:00 pm
Bear Valley Middle School
Our ELD students have been working diligently on projects about their family traditions and cultural celebrations. This fall, we are excited to unveil our schoolwide Ofrenda, which will remain on display through mid-November in connection with DÃa de los Muertos.
🌸 Honoring Traditions Across Cultures
While DÃa de los Muertos is widely celebrated in Mexico and Latin America, many cultures have similar traditions of remembering and honoring loved ones. For example, in Vietnam families observe Tết Trung Nguyên (August) and Tết Thanh Minh (April), both of which honor ancestors with offerings, food, and family gatherings. Our celebration at Bear Valley is meant to bring together all of these traditions in a spirit of unity and remembrance.
✨ What to Expect from 6–7 pm:
Community Potluck – Please bring a dish that represents your culture to share. (A sign-up sheet will be available ahead of time to help us organize food and supplies.)
Click HERE if you plan on bringing a dish to share. You can call the main office to have us enter it on your behalf if you are unable to open the document.
Ofrenda Decorating – Families are welcome to bring scanned photos of loved ones to include.
Games & Crafts – Fun activities for students and families will be provided!
Culture Presentations – Students will share their writing and projects about traditions old and new.
This evening is an opportunity to celebrate our students’ work, learn from one another, and strengthen our Bear Valley community. We hope you will join us in sharing food, stories, and traditions together!
Lastly, this is the Interpreter sign up form for any family that needs an interpreter during the teacher visit time! Please take advantage of this free support!
Addressing the behavioral and social-emotional needs of our students is critical to ensuring their well-being and healthy development, their access to safe and welcoming schools, and their ability to engage with grade-level texts and tasks. Universal behavioral and emotional screening is a proactive and systematic way to determine appropriate supports for students.
In Denver Public Schools, we use the Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS) to screen all students for behavioral and social-emotional risk. This screener is completed by students, teachers, and parents/caregivers at the beginning and end of each school year. The screening results will support data-driven decision-making across all tiers (levels) of supports in school buildings, in order to meet students’ needs as appropriately as possible.
Action Needed: BESS Parent/Caregiver Form - If you haven’t done so already, please take a few minutes to complete the BESS for your student. Our fall parent/caregiver screening window is open through October 31st. Please go to tinyurl.com/bessparent to complete your student’s screening today. You will need your student’s ID number and date of birth to log in.
If you'd like to learn more about the BESS and universal behavioral and emotional screening in Denver Public Schools, please review the BESS Overview for Parents/Guardians document.
Thank you so much for your participation!
If you need your student's 6 digit ID, please call the main office!
Go to tinyurl.com/bessparent
Enter your student’s DPS ID and date of birth (MM/DD/YYYY)
Complete the screening form.

We hope to see many of our Yetis participate in our 1st Spirit week of the school year, starting Monday October 6th through Friday October 10th.
We want to remind you that students who choose not to participate in our spirit days are expected to be in full compliance with the BVMS dress code. If a student wears any prohibited items, they will receive a strike. Accumulating three strikes will result in in-school suspension.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a positive and respectful school environment.
Starting on October 3rd we will be hosting FREE dress Fridays. Our hope is that we can continue to offer this incentive to students throughout the year, every Friday. If we feel students are unable to meet the guidelines we will stop offering this reward.
