Yeti Families!
We are back after a restful Thanksgiving break. Hope you all had a great 10 days with your students and loved ones. We only have 3 weeks until our next long break. These three weeks are very important, families. Your students are wrapping up semester 1!
Attendance and grades are of utmost importance as your students wrap up their semester. 8th grade families, we are getting closer and closer to continuation. On track attendance, grades, and behavior matter NOW. All of this data paints a picture of whether or not your student is eligible to Continuate.
We have two BIG WINS at BVMS right now and they are both around attendance. Our current attendance rate is 90%; we are beating our attendance last year by 4%. This is huge! An even bigger win is our improvement with chronic attendance. Chronically absent students are students who have missed school by10% or more. Last year we were at 52% chronically absent students at this time of the year We are smashing this number as we have dropped down to 36% Chronically absent. We have one of the highest improvements in attendance in all DPS middle schools. Families, keep up the great work of getting your student TO SCHOOL. We love your little yetis and want to see them everyday.
Every day I am continuously grateful to lead at BVMS. Let's make these next 3 weeks Yetitastic!
Mrs. Sutherland :)

We’re are so #YETI proud of the progress our school has made and the positive changes happening every day. While we recognize the challenges of the other schools that occupied this building in the past, we are committed to building a new story—one of success, growth, and pride at the Henry Campus.
Your voice matters! We encourage all families to share their experiences and celebrate our achievements, like earning a “GREEN” rating on the Colorado School Performance Framework, back to back years!
Together, we can show our community that Bear Valley Middle School at the Henry Campus is a fresh start with a bright future.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us!

We’ve noticed an alarming increase in students bringing caffeinated drinks (Monsters, RedBulls, Soda etc) to school. Caffeine affects young people’s sleep, focus, and heart rate, and it’s not appropriate for school hours.
We are asking for your support to not send energy drinks, caffeinated sodas, or coffee with your child. We also want to ensure that students are not selling, purchasing or allowing friends to provide them these drinks.
We appreciate your time talking with your child about why caffeine isn’t safe for youth and help us keep the school a healthy environment for everyone.
Thank you for your support, we have included the below resources to review.
Nurse Katie’s Caffeine Presentation
The Effects of Caffeine on Kids: A Parent’s Guide Caffeine and Children.

As reminder, all 8th grade families must participate in the DPS Choice application process to be placed in their desired high school for the 26-27 school year. The SchoolChoice timeline has changed! For the 2026-27 school year, the Round 1 window will open on Dec. 2, 2025 at 10 a.m. and close on Jan. 20, 2026 at 4 p.m. Families will be notified of placement results in late February.
Current BVMS 6th & 7th graders DO NOT have to participate in this application process as you have automatically been reserved a spot for 7th and 8th grade for the 26-27 school year.
If you know of a family who is looking for their middle school for the 26-27 school year, please give them Mama Yetis number, 720-423-9663 or send them this Future Families website link that has our enrollment pamphlets for them to review and sign-up for a Student Council lead Open House tour in November, December or January!
