🎓 Invitation: Spring Student-Led Conferences at AsburyDear Asbury Families,At Asbury, we are deeply committed to Personalized Learning. We believe that when students have the opportunity to show what they know, they develop a stronger "voice" and take true ownership of their education.
We are thrilled to invite you to our Spring Student-Led Conferences (SLCs)—a "Showcase of Learning" where your child takes the lead.🌟
What is a Student-Led Conference?
Instead of a traditional seated meeting with a teacher, your child will guide you through their Learner Portfolio. This is an open-house style event where students showcase their projects, writing samples, and progress in Math, Literacy, and PBL.
Bring your child to the conference 🙂
During your 20-minute session, your child will lead a reflection on these three questions:
What am I proud of?
What are my successes?
What poses challenges for me?
🗓️ Event Details
Date: May 7, 2026
Time: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Sign-Up Starts: April 6 (Teachers will send out a Sign-Up Genius link)
To ensure every family has space and time to engage with their student, we will host six 20-minute rotations. You will be able to select a time slot that works best for your schedule.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Can I meet 1-on-1 with the teacher? While our Fall conferences are dedicated to teacher-led data sharing, this Spring event is specifically designed for you to learn directly from your child. Our teachers and paraprofessionals will be in the room roving and supporting students as they present.
What about READ Plan meetings? We will not be hosting separate Spring conferences for READ Plans. Our MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) process ensures that we are continuously monitoring progress and communicating with families throughout the year.
We are so proud of the work our students are putting into their portfolios and cannot wait for them to share their growth with you!
In Partnership,
Jeanna Doung

Spring Break is Here!
I want to wish all of our students, staff, and families a restful and rejuvenating Spring Break.Important Dates to Note:
Students: No school starting Friday, March 27, through Monday, April 6. We look forward to seeing our students back in the hallways on Tuesday, April 7.
Teachers: Our staff will be on break from March 28 through April 5 before returning for our Asbury Release Day on the 6th.
I hope you all find some time to get outside and enjoy this beautiful weather. With the way temperatures have been lately, I’m not sure if we should call it "early spring" or just head straight into summer! Whatever you choose to do, I hope it is filled with relaxation and sunshine.

Spring Break Construction Update
Blacktop & Basketball Court: Please be aware that our ongoing construction project will require the closing of the playground, blacktop, and basketball court over Spring Break (March 30 – April 3). While we know this is an inconvenience for our neighborhood families who use the space during the break, we are keeping our eyes on the finish line! This work is a critical step toward getting our new A/C system fully operational for next school year. With the unusually high temperatures we’ve already experienced this year, we are feeling more thankful than ever for this upgrade.
Thank you for your continued patience as we make these necessary improvements for our students and staff!

Recap: Asbury Technology Night
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Technology Night! It was a privilege to have our district partners out to share their expertise and engage in such meaningful dialogue with our community.
We had some truly great conversations centered on how we can best support our students in a digital age. For those who were unable to attend or for those who would like to review the information shared, you can find the presentation materials here:
Link: Tech Slides – District Presentation
These insights are helping to shape our upcoming goals as we move into the problem-solving phase of our technology planning. We look forward to continuing this partnership at our next CSC meeting on April 7!

🐾 Pups off the Playground, Please!
As the weather gets nicer, we love seeing so many of you walking to school with your furry friends! Just a friendly reminder to keep all our students safe (and to accommodate those with allergies or fears), dogs are not allowed on the school playground or blacktop. Please keep your pups on the perimeter sidewalks during drop-off and pick-up.
If you happen to get "caught" with a pup on school grounds, consider yourself "ticketed"—and the fine is one ream of white printer paper for the front office!
Thanks for helping us keep our grounds safe and our supply closet stocked! 🐶📄

Join the Asbury Collaborative School Committee (CSC)!
Are you looking for a way to have a direct impact on the future of our school? We are looking for passionate parents and community members to join the Collaborative School Committee (CSC) for the upcoming school year!
What does the CSC do?
The CSC is a vital leadership group that works alongside school administration to provide input on our school’s strategic goals, budget priorities, and overall school design. It is the place where parent voices truly help shape the "Roots & Reach" of Asbury.
What is the commitment?
Time: One meeting per month (usually 60 minutes).
Engagement: Occasional "pre-reading" (about 20 minutes) to prepare for meaningful discussions.
Collaboration: Sharing your unique perspective to help us make the best decisions for all students.
How do I join? While there is an official community voting process to finalize the committee, we encourage anyone with an interest in school leadership to step forward! No prior experience in school administration is necessary—we just need your heart and your voice.
Interested?
Please email Jeanna_Doung@dpsk12.net to let her know you’d like to be added to the ballot or to ask any questions you may have.

Summer Camp Spreadsheet
-
We've gathered up the most critical information from some (most?) of the area's top summer camps and compiled it in one location for you. In the spreadsheet you'll find registration and camp dates, times, cost and cancellation info, as well as a link to each camp's website.
-
There's also a Schedule Tracker tab at the bottom for each grade level. If you feel so inclined, you can insert a line with your child's camp plans for any given week so others can see if their kiddos will know anyone at a given camp.
- If you have any issues accessing the spreadsheet, or know of a lovely summer camp we overlooked, please let Dan know (817-718-4839 | danselje@uwalumni.com).
