Principal Message

Hi Team,

I am so thrilled to reach out and celebrate the incredible progress our students are making in math!

We’ve officially wrapped up our March Mathness event, and the results are truly a testament to the hard work of our students and the unwavering support of our teachers. We are so proud of the lasting impact this initiative has on our school culture and the growth we are seeing in our math scores.

A huge thank you goes to Nicole Johnsen, Steve Altenburger, and Becky Tanner for leading this event and supporting our leaderboards and students throughout the competition.

Understanding the Scores

As we look at the data below, I want to provide a quick reminder of how the IXL "Real-Time Diagnostic" scores work. The scores are designed to represent a student's grade-level proficiency. For example:

100 represents a student who has mastered the Kindergarten curriculum and is beginning 1st-grade work.

110 represents a student at a "first grade, first month" level.

200 represents a student ready for 2nd-grade material, and so on.

April IXL Math Scores

Our April data shows that our students are performing at or well above grade level across the board! Here is how we grew compared to last month:

Kindergarten: 120 (Up from 106 last month)

1st Grade: 203 (Up from 187 last month)

2nd Grade: 291 (Up from 275 last month)

3rd Grade: 397 (Up from 381 last month)

4th Grade: 480 (Last month: 485)

5th Grade: 556 (Up from 536 last month)

While we know this is just one data point in our students' educational journey, we are absolutely thrilled to see the growth and dedication these numbers represent. It is wonderful to see our mathematicians working so hard to grow their skills.Thank you all for everything you do to support our students every single day!

In Partnership,

Jeanna Doung

What’s Still Relevant?

UIP: Unified Improvement Plan Input

We want your input to ensure Asbury is the best place it can be and we need your input. The purpose of this survey is to gather essential feedback from our staff and community to ensure our Unified Improvement Plan (UIP) for the 2026-27 school year accurately reflects the needs of every student at Asbury.

What is a UIP? A UIP is a publicly transparent, data-grounded roadmap designed to move our school from its current state to our shared goals. Your perspective will help us confirm that we have identified the right "Why" behind our performance gaps. Our data currently reveals a persistent gap for Students of Color (SOC) and Students with Disabilities (SWD) in CMAS ELA, Math, and K-3 Literacy, as well as a need to address Chronic Absenteeism.

Furthermore, we need your input on our proposed "How"—the systemic strategies we believe will drive improvement:

Equity-Centered Planning: Using the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework to create high-rigor tasks with necessary scaffolds.

Relational Engagement: Implementing systems that build "Relational Capacity" and use real-time data to support student attendance and transitions.

Strategic Staffing: Utilizing "Flooding Models" and "Power Hour" schedules to maximize adult-student interaction and ensure equitable access to support.

Your input is vital in helping us intentionally create conditions in which all learners thrive. Please take a few moments to share your thoughts on whether these priorities and strategies are the right ones to move Asbury forward!

Empowering Our Learners: Why We Value Student-Led Conferences

At Asbury, we believe that when students take the driver's seat in their education, they become more than just learners—they become future leaders. Student-Led Conferences (SLCs) are a cornerstone of this belief, shifting the focus from teacher-driven reports to student-driven reflection.

Here is why SLCs make such a profound impact on our school community:

Ownership & Accountability: When students lead the discussion about their progress, they take true responsibility for their achievements and setbacks. This fosters a proactive mindset where they see themselves as the primary architects of their success.

Confidence & Communication: Presenting to adults can be daunting, but it is a powerful way to build public speaking skills. Students learn to articulate their thoughts clearly, a skill that serves them well beyond the classroom.

Deeper Parent Partnerships: These conferences offer families a unique window into their child’s daily life at school. Seeing your student reflect on their work in real-time provides a clearer understanding of how to support their growth at home.

Goal-Oriented Growth: Through intentional self-reflection, students identify their own "why." They evaluate their work critically, celebrate their strengths, and set meaningful short- and long-term goals.

Collaborative Relationships: During an SLC, the teacher moves into the role of facilitator. This shift strengthens the bond between teacher and student, creating a supportive environment where students feel guided rather than judged.

By preparing our students to organize their work and practice self-assessment, we ensure that every conference is a smooth, meaningful experience. We are proud to foster a culture where student voice is at the heart of our academic journey! For more information, check out this article about Student Led Conferences.

Meet Your 2026-2027 CSC Members

We are excited to introduce the nominees for our Collaborative School Committee (CSC) for the upcoming 26/27 school year! The CSC plays a vital role in our school’s decision-making process, providing input on everything from our budget to our academic goals.

Your Voice Matters

As part of our commitment to transparency and community partnership, we want to ensure you have a say in our leadership. We invite you to review the nominees and share if you have any concerns with Jeanna.

Get Involved & Say Thanks

If you have any questions, concerns, or additional input regarding the selection process, please reach out directly to me, Jeanna. I am always available to discuss how we can continue to make Asbury the best possible environment for our students.

Finally, if you see these individuals around the building or in the community, please take a moment to thank them. Giving their time and energy to serve on the CSC is a significant commitment, and we are incredibly grateful for their dedication to the Asbury community!

Message from the Green Eagles and Ridwell

Hello Asbury Families! Ridwell is a local organization that helps families in our area recycle and reuse more through doorstep pickup of materials that can’t be recycled curbside. Check out this 2-minute video if you’d like to learn more.

We would like to invite everyone to join Ridwell. If we have 10 families new to Ridwell sign up before May 22nd, Ridwell will sponsor our school next year by providing a monthly pickup. Please see the attached link for additional information and the link to sign-up! Thank you for supporting our community!- The Green Eagles Asbury's Ridwell Drive

Already have Ridwell at home? No problem! We are hosting a plastic film drive at our school to help keep items out of the landfill. Beginning Monday, April 20th, please bring your single layer plastic film and drop it off by the Ridwell recycling center inside of our building. We will be collecting until May 1st. Please click on the following link to see what qualifies as plastic film, because sadly not all plastic can be recycled the same way. Our Green Eagles are working to collect the most plastic film in our district. Thanks for helping us save the planet one bag at a time. Plastic Film Info.

🐾 Pups off the Playground, Please!

As the weather gets nicer, we love seeing so many of you walking to school with your furry friends! Just a friendly reminder to keep all our students safe (and to accommodate those with allergies or fears), dogs are not allowed on the school playground or blacktop. Please keep your pups on the perimeter sidewalks during drop-off and pick-up.

If you happen to get "caught" with a pup on school grounds, consider yourself "ticketed"—and the fine is one ream of white printer paper for the front office!

Thanks for helping us keep our grounds safe and our supply closet stocked! 🐶📄
