Dear Asbury Families,
As we conclude our celebration of Black History Month, I want to share how our students and staff have engaged with this vital part of our history and culture throughout February. At Asbury, our approach is rooted in the belief that Black history is American history, and it is a journey of celebration, reflection, and learning that enriches our entire community. Here is a look at how our students have been diving into this work: PBL Units & Projects: Many of our grade levels have integrated Black history into their Project-Based Learning (PBL) units. From studying the impact of Black scientists and inventors to exploring the influence of African American artists on modern culture, students have been working on authentic projects that highlight the resilience and ingenuity of Black leaders. Library & Literature: Our library has featured curated collections of books that amplify Black voices. We’ve focused on "windows and mirrors"—ensuring students see themselves reflected in the stories we read and providing windows into the lived experiences of others.
Classroom Highlights: Throughout the month, students have engaged in daily spotlights on figures ranging from civil rights icons to contemporary trailblazers in technology, sports, and the arts. Our Commitment Beyond February
While February provides a dedicated time for focus, our commitment to an inclusive and diverse curriculum continues year-round. Our philosophy ensures that we are constantly looking for ways to represent the diversity of our world in our daily instruction, community circles, and school-wide expectations. Thank you for your partnership in fostering a school environment where every student’s history is honored and every student’s future is celebrated.
Warmly, Jeanna Doung As always, we appreciate all those that have started to put your input into our survey. Please take a few minutes to share your voice via our confidential survey: Asbury Public Input Survey Link: https://forms.gle/B52ks6Lr3bpx8qsM8

Join the Asbury Collaborative School Committee (CSC)!Are you looking for a way to have a direct impact on the future of our school? We are looking for passionate parents and community members to join the Collaborative School Committee (CSC) for the upcoming school year! What does the CSC do?The CSC is a vital leadership group that works alongside school administration to provide input on our school’s strategic goals, budget priorities, and overall school design. It is the place where parent voices truly help shape the "Roots & Reach" of Asbury. What is the commitment?
Time: One meeting per month (usually 60 minutes). Engagement: Occasional "pre-reading" (about 20 minutes) to prepare for meaningful discussions. Collaboration: Sharing your unique perspective to help us make the best decisions for all students.
How do I join? While there is an official community voting process to finalize the committee, we encourage anyone with an interest in school leadership to step forward! No prior experience in school administration is necessary—we just need your heart and your voice.Interested? Please email Jeanna Doung to let me know you’d like to be added to the ballot or to ask any questions you may have. |

Summer Camp Spreadsheet
-
We've gathered up the most critical information from some (most?) of the area's top summer camps and compiled it in one location for you. In the spreadsheet you'll find registration and camp dates, times, cost and cancellation info, as well as a link to each camp's website.
-
There's also a Schedule Tracker tab at the bottom for each grade level. If you feel so inclined, you can insert a line with your child's camp plans for any given week so others can see if their kiddos will know anyone at a given camp.
- If you have any issues accessing the spreadsheet, or know of a lovely summer camp we overlooked, please let Dan know (817-718-4839 | danselje@uwalumni.com).
